A New Operatic Era in Oxford: Sir Bryn Terfel Appointed Artistic Director of Oxford International Opera
​Sir Bryn Terfel has taken the helm as the inaugural Artistic Director of Oxford International Opera, a major venture founded in partnership with the Oxford Philharmonic Orchestra and Music Director Marios Papadopoulos. The company launches its debut season at Oxford’s New Theatre with a fully staged production of Puccini’s Tosca, spotlighting Sir Bryn in his final planned performances as the villainous Baron Scarpia alongside an international cast.

What does the power dynamic look like now?

The Mega-Agency Strongholds: The largest global agencies—giants like TACT, Askonas Holt / Opus 3 Artists, IMG Artists, HarrisonParrott, and Intermusica—hold massive rosters, with their central power bases anchored firmly in Europe’s high-density, repertory-driven theater circuit.

The Boutique Surge: In response to corporate consolidation, agile boutique agencies across North America and Europe (such as Fletcher Artist Management, CSAM, and L2 Artists) have rapidly risen, offering artists high-touch career strategy and targeted pitching without the sprawling overhead.
The new management shifts will have a huge impact on new talent, navigating the shrinking opera season and prospects of getting jobs that can grow an artist's career.

Ein trauriger Tag für die gesamte Kulturlandschaft 🖤🎶😢😡
Die Wiener Kammeroper schließt ihre Pforten – und mit ihr geht ein Haus, das für viele von uns weit mehr war als nur ein Theater.
Ich habe an diesem Haus schon beim Belvedere Wettbewerb mitgesungen. Es war der Anfang meiner Karriere und diese Bühne war für so viele junge Künstlerinnen und Künstler das Sprungbrett.
Doch es geht um weit mehr als um meine eigene Geschichte. Dass gerade eine solche klassische Talenteschmiede nun dem Sparzwang zum Opfer fällt, ist ein fatales Signal. In einer „Kulturnation“ wie Österreich darf das nicht der Weg sein.
Kunst & Kultur sind keine „Luxusware“. Sie sind die tägliche Nahrung für unsere Gesellschaft. Sie bewahren unsere Traditionen und Werte, sind aber vor allem ein unverzichtbarer Spiegel unserer Zeit und der aktuellen Geschehnisse. Sie sind ein Schutzraum für die Zivilgesellschaft, ein Ort des Austausches und ein tragender Pfeiler unserer Demokratie.
Wer bei Kunst & Kultur spart, macht sich an der Zukunft unseres so reichen Kulturerbes schuldig. Wo fängt es an, wo hört es auf? ⁉️ Wenn ich sehe, wofür so alles Österreich Geld hat, frage ich mich schon, warum man unserem überall auf der Welt so geschätzten Kulturbetrieb sehenden Auges derart große Wunden schlägt. Jeder in Kunst investierter Euro kommt nachweislich mehrfach zurück und was wir jetzt abbauen, bauen wir so schnell nicht mehr wieder auf. Wir befinden uns in einer Situation der „Gefahr im Verzug“. Dieser Trend ist mehr als bedenklich – er ist zerstörerisch. Die KAMMEROPER ist leider nur das erste Opfer und wird mir – und der ganzen Klassik-Szene – unglaublich fehlen. Ein schwarzer Tag für die Kulturhauptstadt Wien und unsere angebliche Kulturnation Österreich 🇦🇹😐 Ich gebe die Hoffnung aber nicht auf und werde mit allen vernünftigen Kräften immer für Kunst & Kultur kämpfen.
