What is pH? 🧪⚗️

pH is a measure of how acidic or alkaline (basic) a solution is, based on its hydrogen ion concentration. The pH scale is commonly represented from 0 to 14: values below 7 are acidic, 7 is neutral, and values above 7 are alkaline. A lower pH means a higher concentration of hydrogen ions, while a higher pH means a lower hydrogen ion concentration.

In the human body, maintaining the right pH is essential for enzyme activity, protein structure, cellular reactions, and normal physiology. For example, blood is normally maintained within a narrow range of about pH 7.35–7.45 through coordinated action of the lungs, kidneys, and chemical buffer systems.

Aromaticity is the property of certain cyclic, planar, and fully conjugated molecules that possess exceptional stability due to the delocalization of π (pi) electrons. According to Hückel's Rule, a compound is aromatic if it contains (4n + 2) π electrons, where n is a non-negative integer (0, 1, 2, ...). Aromatic compounds exhibit equal bond lengths, high resonance energy, and prefer electrophilic substitution over addition reactions. Common examples include benzene, naphthalene, pyridine, and furan. Aromaticity is important in organic chemistry, pharmaceuticals, dyes, polymers, and many biologically active molecules because it provides remarkable chemical stability and unique reactivity.
