At Acton Academy Timișoara, children are trusted, guided and empowered to be responsible for their own learning, and to use their learning to change the world. Our learner-driven community puts children at the center of their learning, allowing them to create and maintain personal goals, develop long term relationships and acquire real world meaningful skills. Students at Acton Academy Timișoara learn together in mixed-age classrooms, bringing the classic one-room schoolhouse into the modern age. Guides—our term for teachers—are not lecturers, but facilitators of student learning and growth.

🚀 What have our Discovery Studio learners been up to lately? 🌍

This past session, our learners ages 6–9 explored astronomy through hands-on projects, teamwork, and curiosity.

Alongside core skills, reading, art, physical education through games, and caring for our school garden, learners journeyed from the Solar System to stars, nebulas, galaxies, and black holes.

They created 3D planet models, painted galaxies and nebulas, designed safe landing crafts and enjoyed a special visit to the Planetarium at Universitatea de Vest.

When life gives you a snowy day… you make ice cream! 🍦❄️

We don't teach Chemistry at our school. Our learners LIVE it—through real projects, real experiments, and real discovery. Every single day brings a new challenge and a new opportunity to learn by doing.

Our learners kicked off their Chemistry & Cooking Quest by making homemade ice cream—the first of many challenges this session.

Merry Christmas! 🎄✨

Here’s a sneak peek into our Christmas project this year: our learners delivered shoebox gifts to children in the Cerneteaz area. They raised the funds, planned the shopping list, did the shopping, wrapped every gift, and delivered them personally.

They took “Learn to Be” to the next level, reminding us that acts of kindness, no matter how small, matter. ❤️🎁

Session 2 Recap – Adventure Studio (ages 9–12) 🏛️⚖️

Their 7-week project this session had 2 big tracks:

1️⃣The Trial of Socrates
Learners explored ancient Athens, democracy and ethics,then stepped into roles as prosecutors, defendants, and jury members, practicing Socratic questioning.

They investigated big ideas like:
❓Where does authority come from—created, given, or taken?
❓Is Socrates guilty… or an innocent philosopher?
❓ Will you stay true to your convictions, even at great cost?
❓ Are some ideals worth dying for—and which ones?

✨ Special guest: we welcomed Avocat Alin Trăilescu, who shared about his career and helped connect the trial to real-world justice.

2️⃣Greek Myths Writing
Learners wrote their own original myths inspired by Greek themes and archetypes.

🎭 The Exhibition is a public showcase where learners present what they created and learned during the session. Last wednesday, the learners presented the Deep Books they read during Core Skills, shared their myths, then staged a semi-modern mock trial where guests joined as the citizen jury and voted Guilty or Innocent. 🗳️

Session 2 Recap – Discovery Studio (ages 6–8) 🧀🍓🥗

Our young learners went on a delicious and scientific Food Quest.

They:
✅ made cheese
✅ explored food groups + what makes a balanced plate
✅ learned to read food labels (real-life skill!)
✅ created their own spice mixes
✅ practiced plating and presentation
✅ welcomed Bucătarul Copiilor who showed them how to make a protein bar 💪
✅ tackled food waste prevention and smart choices in the kitchen
✅ made their own cookbooks 📖✨
✅ cooked eggs in 3 different ways (and compared taste + texture!) 🍳
✅ built a solar oven and experimented with heat, sunlight, and cooking 🔆
✅prepared healthy snacks for their Exhibition

…plus many more mini-challenges that built practical life skills, all while having lots of fun.

🌱 Our Discovery learners (ages 6–8) have been busy bees during the Community Garden Quest!

From germinating tiny microgreens and preparing garden beds to planting seeds and bulbs, our young gardeners discovered just how much care and science go into helping plants thrive. 🌼

They explored vermicomposting 🪱, practiced mulching to protect the soil, and uncovered the fascinating secrets of how plants grow, breathe, and give back to the Earth. 🌿

✨ Let the school year begin! ✨
Our first week back was all about building the tribe, reconnecting after the summer, and embracing new challenges as heroes in their own unfolding stories.

Learners celebrated with hero costumes and a photoshoot, and set the tone for an exciting year of growth, discovery, and adventure ahead. 🚀💫
