Last week, at Asociatia Romana pentru Design si Inovatie ’s Design Inside event, I took the stage to share the stories behind a few projects developed together with Anamaria Moldovan and our teams at ateliercetrei and am+pm : MaNoOtTa, cross.sideboard and polimasa.
We talked about design, research, prototyping and manufacturing, but also about the adventures that took us from our studio in Cluj to furniture fairs in Cologne, Paris and New York.
Along the way, we discovered that design is never only about objects. It is about people, conversations, opportunities and culture.
One question kept returning: How can Romanian design become more visible internationally? That question eventually inspired us to create .fau (The Collections of FAU) - an educational initiative where future architects and designers can learn directly from design objects and the stories behind them. Because if we want Romanian design to be present in the museums of tomorrow, we first need to build a culture of design today.
Many thanks to ARDI for the invitation and to everyone who joined the conversation.

Last week, Paul and Anamaria had the pleasure of sharing ateliercetrei’s experience through the project ‘Restoration, Enhancement and Tourist Integration of the Castrum of Legio V Macedonica, Potaissa - Turda’ at Politecnico di Milano - a school shaped not only by its contemporary research agenda, but also by the legacy of architects and designers such as Gio Ponti, Achille Castiglioni, Vico Magistretti, Cini Boeri or G*e Aulenti.
Hosted by the Department of Architecture and Urban Studies (DAStU) and the Preservation of Built Heritage Design Studio, the visit combined a lecture, a full day of project reviews, and conversations with students and faculty working on heritage-related topics.
Beyond the projects themselves, at a time when architectural education is increasingly mediated by artificial intelligence, algorithms and digital representations, it was inspiring to experience an academic environment where design, research, making and critical discussion remain - now more than ever - closely connected.
Many thanks to , Sara Goidanich and the entire DAStU team for their invitation, generosity and hospitality.

One of the four houses in the landscape.
One of the rooms within it.
L1 settles lightly on the slope, opening towards the forest and distant clearings. From the outside, the gesture is almost silent: a familiar silhouette, slightly lifted, carefully placed.
Inside S1, the scale shifts.
Architecture becomes tactile - wood, light, thickness, proximity. A place measured not in meters, but in comfort.
Across the ensemble, the project moves between these two conditions: distance and closeness, landscape and interior, memory and use.

A new step for a mountain hospitality project in Rusu, near Petroșani: the building permit has been obtained, following the feasibility study phase.
From the outset, the project explores how a contemporary volume can engage the mountain landscape while referencing the archaic vernacular at the intersection of Gorj, Hunedoara and Țara Loviștei.
The linear logic of the traditional house - porch and repeated room module - is reinterpreted through an entrance loggia and a sequence of structural bays organizing the accommodation units.
In the rather chaotic context of the Rusu resort, the project proposes a calm, restrained presence, defined by simple volumes and a reduced material palette.
Now live on our website.

If you tried calling, emailing, or knocking and didn’t get an answer - don’t worry. We’re on our annual winter break until January 12, embracing family time, quiet days, snowy mornings (maybe), and a slower rhythm as the year comes to an end.
In the meantime, we hope you’re enjoying the holidays, whether in your favorite winter getaway or in the warmth of your own home.
We’re leaving you with some images of the four Ielele refurbished and resettled houses, captured by (a couple of them enhanced with AI for holiday-related purposes), in one of the most picturesque settings of the Apuseni Mountains: Smida.
Merry Christmas, and see you in the New Year.
Until then - warm thoughts and peaceful days.
