Our purpose is to perfect the community that connects and cares for the emotional and academic wellbeing of every child. Transylvania College is a student-centred school, offering a complete educational path, from nursery to high school. It is the only international school in the region accredited by the Romanian Ministry of Education which has also been awarded BSO (British School Overseas) status by the UK Department of Education, following a series of inspections. Transylvania College is an Accredited Member of COBIS (Council of British International Schools), and is under the High Patronage of Her Majesty Margareta of Romania, Crown Custodian. The school campus offers a unique, multicultural learning environment where close to 650 students and 100 teachers, representing 35 nations from six continents, embark on an educational journey while becoming mindful leaders. The students develop their leadership skills through ‘Leader in Me’, a whole-school transformational process involving everyone—from the students and the teachers to the administrators—creating a common language which is used by all. Students learn how to become self-reliant, how to take initiative and plan, while setting and tracking goals. They prioritize their time, manage their emotions and are considerate of others. They learn to think critically, express viewpoints persuasively, and find creative solutions. As they develop their teamwork skills, they understand how to value differences, work collaboratively and resolve conflicts. These are much-needed skills to achieve personal wellbeing, as well as success in today’s workplaces. Ever since its inauguration in 1993, 27 years ago, the school’s mission and vision have also focused on making a difference in the wider community. Its scholarship program has already supported close to 100 students, with three new scholarships for excellence being awarded every year in the Cambridge high school. True to its calling as a change agent in education, Transylvania College has also started to launch the Leader in Me process in other schools across the country, bringing much needed education reform by changing the paradigms of those directly involved in the education process.
