The Romanian Students' Society of Surgery (SSCR), Cluj-Napoca Branch, in collaboration with the “Iuliu Hațieganu” University of Medicine and Pharmacy Cluj-Napoca and the Centre for Experimental Medicine and Practical Aptitudes, invites you between the 10th and the 18th of July 2026, in Cluj-Napoca, Romania, to spend unforgettable days learning about surgery, making new friends and discovering a city with almost 2000 years of history!
You will have the opportunity to learn and put into practice advanced surgical skills that can help you make decisions regarding your future speciality, since you will be familiarised with a lot of procedures. It will also help you determine whether surgery is suitable for you or not. You will start with a basic skills review so that you can refresh your memory. Afterwards, we will help you acquire knowledge and skills in the field of:

- cardiovascular surgery,
- digestive surgery,
- plastic and reconstructive surgery,
- gynaecology,
- laparoscopic surgery - with simulators and pelvi-trainers, helping you gain real hands-on training.

Finally, you will also acquire some useful skill sets pertaining not only to a surgeon but to a clinician as well.
Not to mention, all the above activities will take place in a professional and friendly environment!

1. The participant has completed a Basic Surgical Skills workshop, in preference, the ones organised by the Romanian Students' Society of Surgery (this includes The Surgery Summer Camp or The International Surgery Summer School);
2. The participant has completed the General Surgery module at his home institution;
3. The participant has completed a month of clinical practice (during summer practice, for example) in a Surgery Department;
The participant must have proof of one of the above-mentioned criteria; as it is an advanced surgical skills workshop, basic surgical knowledge is mandatory.

✨If you are a medical student interested in the field of surgery or are already sure that you want to become the best surgeon in your field, you really can’t miss out on our summer camp!✨

The last three days of our International School of Advanced Surgery will introduce you to the fields of Cardiovascular Surgery, Urology and Gynaecology.

🫀During the fifth day, you will be trained and receive the opportunity to perform a valve replacement on a real pigs heart, followed by an arterial cannulation and a vascular anastomosis on the same pig’s aorta - all under the guidance and supervision of our team of brilliant doctors and trained professionals.

💧The sixth day will consist of presentations regarding the urinary system. After receiving proper training, you will get to perform a partial nephrectomy, as well as an ureteral anastomosis. In the end, you will get to reimplant a detached ureter to its bladder.

🌸We will end the camp with a workshop that aims to test and improve your abilities in laparoscopy learned in day four, whilst expanding them in field of gynaecology. You will assist lectures held by day to day practitioners and will follow up by operating on a porcine reproductive system, using the laparoscope.

🎉We promise you a thorough yet fun training in the basics of advanced surgery, that you’ll most likely remember for the last of your life! The third and fourth days of our camp will be dedicated to digestive and general surgery! 🫧

During the third day, we'll talk about digestive surgery and how the diverse pathologies of the gastrointestinal tract are being solved surgically. Our participants will learn about the principles of working on the bowel and also the techniques used to perform an enteroanastomosis. There will also be an exciting practical part where everyone will apply their knowledge and their skills to perform the most resistant anastomosis.🪡

The fourth day is one of the most special and exciting as it takes us closer to the experience of a real surgery! You'll get to know how a laparoscopic intervention is done by listening to an experienced surgeon and also by trying it yourself by performing a cholecistectomy on a pig hepatobiliary tract! 🚨

✨Welcome to the first two days of our surgical course!!✨

In the first day participants will gain hands-on experience with suturing techniques, learning how to properly tie knots and close surgical incisions. The workshop will be led by experienced surgeons and medical professionals who will provide demonstrations and guide participants through practical exercises.
Throughout this first day, participants will also learn about wound management concepts including infection prevention, wound healing, and post-operative care.

The second day of our workshop, will be focused on various important topics in plastic surgery such as locoregional flaps and tendon sutures.
Our experienced faculty will explain the latest surgical techniques and data to make sure that the attendees are up-to-date with the newest advances.
Finally, we will wrap up the session with tendon sutures. Attendees will learn how they play a crucial role in repairing and rehabilitating the body's tissues. Our world-renowned experts will make sure to answer and address all of the attendees' queries, ensuring a stimulating and exhilarating workshop.
