Transylvania College, the winner of the Global Money Week Award 2013, is organising the fourth edition of My Money Week, a financial and entrepreneurial education programme, the first of its kind in Romania. This year we have thought of a Start Up edition, one that is meant to be connected to the global theme that i
s promoted by Child Youth Finance International, platform that involved over a million youth and their families last year, with 185 partners, organisations representing 80 countries, in developing activities dedicated to the financial and entrepreneurial week for the youth all around the world, competition that our school signed up for and won. The year 2014 wants to find an answer to a fundamental question: What do children and youth want for their future?, as our project has as purpose not only educating the children to be ready for the needs and challenges of the contemporary society, in which financial “literacy” plays a decisive role, but also encouraging the young generation to share ideas and take a stand, making an impact on the future society at a global scale. Therefore, during the week of 24th-28th March, Transylvania College puts forward a follow-up of the activities that were so successful during the past years but adding some new elements, focused on entrepreneurship. Project Presentation
Aim:
To prepare young people to leave school with the confidence, skills and knowledge they need in financial matters so that they can participate fully in society. My Money Week represents:
o a means to promote financial and entrepreneurial education in schools
o a joined-up approach to financial education aiming at the existence and promotion of a financial culture among students starting when a child first starts school and continuing right through the transition to working life or further and higher education
o an event that is meant to provide a generous context for students to take part in practical activities, relevant for the theme, that are interactive and challenging, which will help them understand and learn about the efficient management of money
o an initiative that brings schools and local community together to learn more about managing money in a practical and relevant way
o a themed week that provides a focus on financial capability for young people in primary and secondary school offering a flexible framework of options and resources to inspire students and teachers to get the grips with the practicalities of personal finance education
The advantages of cross-curricular activities:

Castigatoare a trofeului Global My Money Award 2013, Transylvania-College organizeaza cea de-a patra editie a proiectului de educatie financiara si antreprenoriala My Money Week, primul de acest gen din Romania. In acest an vorbim despre o editie Start Up, care sa vina in directa legatura cu tema globala promovata de Child Youth Finance International, platforma care a implicat anul trecut un milion de tineri si familiile lor, 185 de parteneri , organizatii din 80 de tari in derularea unor activitati dedicate saptamanii financiare si antreprenoriale a tinerilor de pretutindeni cu care scoala noastra a intrat in competitie. (What do children and youth want for their future?), intrucat proiectul nostru urmareste nu numai educarea in spiritual necesitatilor epocii contemporane, in randul carora latura financiara are un loc decisiv, ci si incurajarea tinerei generatii de a impartasi idei si de a determina luarea de atitudine, de a actiona cu impact asupra intregii societati viitoare.
Proiectul My Money Week reprezintă:

Service Learning Project "From Root to Fruit” - Multiplication project
This project is the multiplication of the Service Learning project Baisoara from the last school year. Until now, we are very happy to say that we succeed to multiply it in 3 new locations: Suatu, Marisel, Sannicoara and we also continue the activities in Baisoara.
The funds raised during Global Money Week activities were used to set a library & multifunctional room for the children from kindergarten to grade 8 in Suatu school: collected books, furniture, carpets, a computer, an interactive board, in order to make a difference in their community life and create an inspiring environment that would help them discover their passion for books, for learning, but also encourage wellbeing. Also, during this year, all the students involved in the activities had the chance to use their knowledge in order to fulfil our project aim.
We are extremely proud of the result!

The students in Primary and High School continued their financial education week by spending time with the students in Mărișel.
Primary students started their day by learning about the local traditions, while the students in High School delivered financial education workshops to the students in Mărișel.
They all learned more about the village from two of the locals, who shared stories about their childhood and showed the kids their home and their traditional items.
The day ended with a trip at the local church, where they learned more about the iconic characters who lived in the area – Palaghia Roșu, Avram Iancu and Horea.

Global Money Week has started and the students from Middle School and High School had their first adventure!
They became teachers for a day for the students in Suatu and organised financial workshops and created amazing posters on financial concepts.
The initiative is part of the Service Learning project called From Root to Fruit, which aims to raise funds for building an interactive library for the students in Suatu.
We are very grateful to Laura Siminiceanu and Ioana Stancu, members of the Parent Lighthouse community for their help!
By the end of the day not only that everyone learned about financial concepts but they also had fun playing football!

Yesterday, the economics students from Year 10 in Transylvania College observed the debate team as they were debating the motion “This House believes that college education should be free.” The younger students learned from their colleagues about taxes, profits, budgets, public speaking, how to debate in an organized way, how to respect each other’s opinion and how to agree to disagree. Moreover, everybody partaking in this event seemed to have fun.
