Words that sound the same but have different meanings. can trip people up! They are called "homophones."

Here's the difference between them, and some examples to ease understanding.

- *Still*: Refers to something / someone that is not moving or changing, e.g., "The water is still."
- *Steel*: A strong, durable metal alloy used in construction. e.g, "The building is made of steel."
- *Steal*: To take something without permission, like "He tried to steal my wallet."

"Learn a LESSON" Or "Learn a LESSEN"?

The words "lesson" and "lessen" are homophones, because they are pronounced the same, but have different spellings and meanings.

LESSON
It is a noun, which refers to the amount of teaching given or received, or the knowledge acquired through experience.

Example 1. Today's lesson was easy to understand.
Example 2. My past mistakes taught me a lesson I will never forget.
Synonyms: knowledge, class, wisdom.

LESSEN
This is a verb, which describes the action of reducing something or making it less or smaller.

Example 1. I drank some painkillers to lessen the pain.
Example 2. The height gap between us has lessened over the years.
Synonyms: reduce, decrease, shorten.
