After my first visit to Romania in 1985, a lot of things have changed in the country. The most obvious changes can be seen in material things like cars and buildings, but what has happened to the people? In a search for ordinary Romanian people on the streets, I came across old women, men, and a place in a city park where people were playing different games.Picture of Romanian people (Romania): Old Romanian woman in the streets of Bucharest
The people in the street have changed, and these changes are unmistakable especially in youngsters. They wear fashionable clothes, call their friends with their mobile phones, carry their school books in colorful plastic bags. They often speak English, look defiantly into the world, and appear to be conscious of their important task in the development of their country. Many of them have not lived the revolution that changed the life of their parents and their country so much - they take developing and modernizing Romania for granted.Picture of Romanian people (Romania): Romanian girl in the historic quarter of Bucharest
But what about the older generations? The people who consciously experienced the Romania of Ceausescu? They largely appear as grey and colorless as they were before. They walk around in clothes that could have been bought 20 years ago. But they don't dominate the streets. They can be found on benches in the many city parks, or playing chess, backgammon and other games under the trees. Most of all, they evoke the atmosphere of times gone by. Socially they are perhaps worse off than under the old regime, and in fact, surveys show that some of them long for the good old days. But you can also see resignation in their faces, they know that the more colorful, dynamic and completely different new youth have the future - a radically different future than the past they lived.

The tourist area is the "messenger" of tourism in Banat and includes the longest and most beautiful gorge in Europe - Danube Gorge (135 km) from Bazias and to the dam located in "Iron Gates" (Gura Valley) built in the period 1964-1971.
The area includes two port cities, Moldova Noua and Orşova, and stretches west to the point of crossing Romania - Serbia, from Naidăş.
The river dug in granite and limestone this spectacular gorge with depression basins and narrow sectors that succeed. Thus, immediately after Coronini, the river banks are very close, 500 m, and the side walls are over 100 m. Next Almaj Mountains, near the village Dubova are large boilers (3.8 km), where the width Danube reaches 200-250 m, and a guard walls that exceed 200 m in height. After the Gulf Dubova, the Danube flows through the small boilers over a length of 3.6 km, where banks are approaching 150 m.
Let’s look at the facts – according to the data that is available from our servers, the US peak connection speeds are about 48.8 Mbps, which makes the United States the nation with the 17 th fastest average internet speed in the world. It’s not the same everywhere - rural areas in the U.S. only have an internet speed of around 7 Mbps.
Now, Romania on the other hand has a peak internet speed of 58.7 Mbps, which makes it the nation with the 6 th fastest internet in the world. Impressive! Also, according to our data, the average download speed in the US is 28.9 Mbps, while in Romania; it is as high as 60 Mbps.
Apart from just internet speeds, Romania consumes more internet on an average than any European country. Romania has an average monthly traffic of 91 GB for fixed broadband lines. The internet pe*******on in Romania in urban areas is pretty high, at 75%. The country has set an ambitious target to achieve 100% internet pe*******on by 2020.

During my time in Romania, I had the pleasure of experiencing it all — cities, tourist hot spots, and, yes, even tiny villages. Having gotten a taste of the contrast between city and country life here, I think I’m better able to appreciate the way life moves a bit slower in rural Romania.
I’ll be writing much more about traveling through post-communist Romania in the future, but for now I want to share some of my favorite village scenes with you. Because, in Romania, I really think it’s the villages that will steal your heart and your imagination.
Romania is full of small villages like the ones I’ll describe to you here, where little wrinkled old ladies sit out on their front benches to gossip in the evenings, where shepherds still tend sheep and cows, and where you’re more likely to be awoken by a rooster than morning traffic.
Yes, electricity, satellite dishes and cell phones abound here, but you are able to easily look past them to the essence of life in the Romanian countryside.

It is one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Romania and ranked as number one in the top Eight Unique Waterfalls Around the World made by the journalists of The World Geography.
What makes this waterfall so unique? The water of an underground spring falls on a cliff covered with moss – you could think you’re in a fairy tale!
The waterfall is situated in the Anina Mountains in South-West Romania.
