📆 Imagine your paycheck just stops coming in today. But you still have to work until the end of the year.
That’s the reality for many women across Europe.
European Equal Pay Day marks the point in the year when women, on average, stop earning compared to men. The gender pay gap still sits above 10% in most EU countries.
The first step to change is pay transparency and real commitment to equality.
Let’s make equal pay the norm, not a yearly reminder!

This October, the European Institute for Gender Equality (EIGE) Director Carlien Scheele put tackling gender stereotypes for gender equality on the agenda for Ministers of Equality at the EPSCO Council meeting under the Danish Presidency.
She reminded leaders that “Gender stereotypes are shaped by society and so we can reshape them.”
Read what the Director had to say and why change is urgently needed.

We need to talk about an issue that no workplace is safe from: sexual harassment.
👉 31% of women have experienced sexual harassment at work.
That number should be zero.
Employers have the power to change this:
🔹 Adopt clear policies – Define what sexual harassment is, prevent it, protect employees, and hold perpetrators accountable.
🔹 Facilitate safe reporting – Provide real support for victims, including third-party reporting from witnesses, free from fear of retaliation.
🔹 Commit to a zero-tolerance culture – Not only inside your organisation, but publicly with clients and partners.
If you lead, manage, or influence a workplace – commit today.
Every employee deserves safety. Every employer can act.

The European Research and Innovation Days 2025 are here. This is the European Commission’s annual flagship event bringing together policymakers, researchers, stakeholders and the public to debate and shape the future of research and innovation in Europe and beyond.
As part of the programme, the Gender Sector of DG Research and Innovation (DG RTD) is hosting a session:
📅 17 September, 15:40–16:10 "€820 Billion on the Table: can Europe afford to ignore the Gender Gap in STEM careers"
Inspired by EIGE’s research on the economic benefits of gender equality, (https://eige.europa.eu/newsroom/economic-benefits-gender-equality?language_content_entity=en) this session will explore how closing the gender gap in STEM careers is not only a question of fairness but also a huge economic opportunity for Europe.

Women in the EU still earn less than men for equal work. The gender pay gap is holding equality back.
The EU Pay Transparency Directive can be a game-changer. By 2026:
▶️Job applicants and employees will have access to pay information
▶️Employers must apply gender-neutral pay criteria
▶️Companies will publish pay gap reports
▶️Pay assessments are required if gaps of 5% or more cannot be justified
EIGE’s Gender Equality Index 2024 (Work domain) makes the case clear. Transparency leads to fairness. https://eige.europa.eu/gender-equality-index/2024/domain/work
