We’ve just wrapped up Media Literacy in the Age of AI, part of the British Council’s Youth Connect programme that is bringing together young leaders to explore one of today’s most urgent topics: how AI is reshaping the information we see, share and trust.
The programme took place in Cyprus, Greece, France, Ireland, Romania and the UK (Scotland and N. Ireland) uniting youth voices across Europe and the UK.
In a world of algorithm-driven feeds, synthetic content and fast-spreading misinformation, media literacy is no longer just a skill, it’s a form of civic empowerment.
Over the past months, participants worked collaboratively through trainings, ideathons and international exchanges to:
⬩ sharpen critical thinking and identify bias, manipulation and disinformation
⬩ understand how algorithms, data and platforms shape public discourse
⬩ explore ethical questions around privacy, online behaviour and responsibility
⬩ co-create innovative solutions: from apps to campaigns, promoting responsible media engagement
From local workshops across Europe to a final international study visit, the programme connected emerging changemakers with experts, researchers and policymakers - turning ideas into action and empowering a new generation of digital leaders.
The result? A growing network of young people equipped not just to navigate the digital world — but to shape its future for the common good.

A showcase of outstanding science communication talent at the Games of Science 2026 National Final 🔬
On 17 May at ARCUB in Bucharest, 16 early-career researchers from across Romania came together to present their work live, sharing science in clear, creative and engaging ways.
As part of the National Final, the British Council was delighted to support the Special Award for Science Communication in English, recognising the most compelling presentation delivered in English, one that sparks curiosity and demonstrates excellence in clear, engaging communication.
This year’s British Council Award winners were Sara Brașcanu (Alexandru Ioan Cuza University of Iași / Universitatea „Alexandru Ioan Cuza” din Iași – Faculty of Physics) and Joshua Biro (PhD in Education, University of Oradea / Universitatea din Oradea), both recognised for outstanding English-language presentations that truly engaged the audience. 🏆 The award was presented by our Country Director, Abdi Hassan and Andreea Stroica, Education Manager.
The overall Games of Science 2026 winner is Laura Cotogoi-Mușcinschi, Master’s student in Biomedical Electronics within the Faculty of Electronics and Telecommunications at Politehnica University of Timișoara / Universitatea Politehnica Timisoara, awarded for her excellent science communication performance.
