The world students are growing up in won’t look like the one we prepared for in the past. Technology is changing how we work, communicate and solve problems, and the rules keep shifting with it.

Education needs to evolve too. Not by abandoning what works, but by giving students the ability to adapt, question, create and figure things out when there’s no familiar path to follow.

Because preparing for the future means more than knowing the rules. It means knowing what to do when they change.

Going back to school can bring mixed feelings. A little nervousness after a long break is normal, but persistent dread can be worth looking into.

Sometimes “I don’t want to go” is about more than simply missing the holidays. It can point to pressure, social difficulties, boredom, lack of autonomy, or an environment where a student doesn’t feel comfortable.

Instead of asking how to make kids tolerate school better, maybe we should ask what could make school a place they actually want to return to.

To open the year, we decided to completely surprise our students and randomized teams and challenges they couldn't have possibly prepared for.

Teams had to identify the era and function of historical weapons and military gear we brought in, using only inscriptions, markings, and logic. They had to choreograph dances on the spot, from traditional dances set to Metallica to Mozart done Bollywood-style. There were also short theatrical challenges with a few minutes to play them out, along with physical relay challenges built around obstacles and objects.

None of it was actually about weapons, dance, or theater. It was just the AmSchool way of doing start-of-year assessments. This way, we were able to notice how each team organized itself, how they handled disagreement, how fast they made decisions with no time to prepare, and how they reacted when a task pushed them somewhere unfamiliar or uncomfortable. That's what we were actually there to see.

The world is changing faster than ever, and education can’t afford to stand still.

Rethinking what school can become means questioning old assumptions, experimenting with new ways of learning, and creating environments that reflect the world students are actually preparing to enter.

Not change for the sake of change, but a simple question: what could education do better?

We often treat quick answers as a sign that someone knows what they’re doing.

But some of the best thinking happens after the first reaction, when there’s time to consider the information, question assumptions, compare possibilities, and change your mind.

In school, students are often expected to recall and respond immediately. In real life, many of the decisions that matter most don’t come with an answer you can recite from memory.

Learning to say “I need to think about it” is not a lack of knowledge. It’s part of knowing how to use it.

What happens when the classroom stops revolving around one person?

Learning becomes more dynamic. Students can move between discussion, collaboration, independent work and hands-on projects, while teachers can focus more on guiding the process than simply delivering information.

The physical space matters because it influences how people interact, where they look for answers, and how comfortable they feel contributing.

Maybe the classroom of the future doesn't need a front at all.

The world is changing faster than ever, and education can't afford to stand still.

Rethinking school means questioning old assumptions, experimenting with new approaches, and creating learning environments that reflect the world students are actually preparing to enter.

The goal isn't to change things just for the sake of change. It's to keep asking a simple question:

What could education do better?
