The time has come to celebrate the remarkable outcomes of the BLOOM project - Tools for an Autonomous Future for Mothers 💜, which was for us more than just a series of meetings. BLOOM was a journey of self-discovery for 10 women, helping them unveil their potential to transform their vulnerability into strength.

We learned a lot, and we are looking forward to sharing the learnings we gained. 📚

Through the Bloom project - Tools for an Autonomous Future for Mothers, we aimed to build a working methodology adapted to the needs of vulnerable women and to support 4 trainers to improve their skills in working with vulnerable groups.

In Romania, Bloom project - ‘Pathways to an autonomous future for mothers’ 💜ran in partnership with Asociatia Casa Ioana. The purpose of the partnership was to test in an authentic environment the instruments developed as part of the program, enabling us to expand the support network for the vulnerable mothers beneficiaries.

Over the course of six meetings, we were trying (and we hope we succeeded) to create a safe and empathetic space for vulnerable women and mothers, where each can find their place and the strength to share life experiences, worries, and personal successes. All of these represent, for us, evidence of resilience.

We believe in the power of every woman to build her own path, and we are here to support them on this journey. Thus, during each meeting we focused on increasing the confidence and autonomy of each beneficiary, both through the identification and awareness of personal resources and skills, and through the development of new routines and strategies to cope with the difficulties of personal life, at work or in their relationship with their children.

Through Bloom project we aim to demonstrate that mental health is a priority and that every woman, regardless of her past, deserves to feel safe, confident and autonomous.

Bloom project - 'Pathways to an autonomous future for mothers’ aims at contributing to the social and professional empowerment of vulnerable mothers in Romania and the Netherlands.

In Romania, the project is designed for the mothers in Asociatia Casa Ioana, addressing the specific needs of this category of mothers.

Our main motivation is that every woman should have access to life-long learning, no matter what her background or experience is.

Part of the Bloom project, we develop a flexible toolkit with empowerment trainings specifically designed to cater to the needs of vulnerable mothers, making it accessible for other organisations that host or deal with women part of this category.

💮 Last November, Arine, Arlette and trainer Jacobien from Netwerkpro traveled to Bucharest to meet with Caregivers, both partners of the Bloom project.

🌟It was a remarkable experience. Jacobien Geuze conducted a train-the-trainer session for a group of caregivers supporting young mothers who had previously been in unsafe situations and were now living in a protected environment for a year. They were working towards independence and reintegrating into society and work. The work they do at this facility and with Caregivers is truly fantastic, and we were deeply impressed. Our train-the-trainer session was well-received; we had a day filled with depth and collaborated on developing a suitable curriculum to support these women. So much accomplished! 🌟

Meanwhile, Arlette Olaerts and Arine Huijboom worked on other aspects of the project. Arlette conducted interviews with various women at Casa Iona under the guidance of Ian Tilling (Founder and President), a shelter providing support to women and children experiencing domestic violence and homeless families. The work they do is outstanding, and it's inspiring to witness the strength of these women. Most of the women can return to society after six months (at most, a year).

In addition, we learned a great deal about our partners, about Bucharest, and about the history and culture of Romania. What a meaningful journey; we are still enjoying the impact of it! 💜

💮It’s easy to get lost in the day-to-day responsibilities, prioritizing commitments to others, whether they are family, friends, or work. Without realizing it, we put our own well-being on the back burner. Neglecting our own needs can lead to exhaustion, stress, and a feeling of emptiness.

🌟Self-care can take many forms, whether it’s enjoying a good book, going for a walk, practicing meditation, or spending quality time with loved ones. It’s about making choices that nurture your physical, emotional, and mental health, as well as setting boundaries – saying no when necessary.🌟

For vulnerable mothers, finding a balance between everyday responsibilities can be challenging. Through BLOOM, we support them in practicing self-care, becoming a positive example for their families and communities.

Taking care of yourself is not selfish - it’s essential! 💜

🌟 Promoting mental health among women is an essential initiative in a world of continuous change and increasing complexity. Mental health is not just the absence of disorders, but also the ability to cope with stress, life challenges and develop a positive attitude towards oneself and life. 🌟

💮 Within the BLOOM - Pathways to an autonomous future for mothers, we encourage vulnerable mothers to recognize their own emotional needs and seek support when necessary. Promoting mental health among women can have a positive impact on their relationships, careers, families, and society as a whole. Women who feel emotionally and mentally stable are more capable to reach their potential, actively engage in the community and guide their children towards a healthy lifestyle.

It is essential for us to create a safe space where single and vulnerable mothers feel encouraged to openly discuss about their mental health! 💜

To contribute to the social and professional empowerment of vulnerable mothers is to contribute to the empowerment of a whole community!

Past experiences shape us, but they don't define us. Through BLOOM, we create a safe space for vulnerable mothers to share their experiences🙌🏼, placing emphasis on identifying and becoming aware of their personal resources.

Through personalized training sessions, we support mothers to (re)define their values in alignment with their aspirations. Values serve as guiding stars🌟 and there are reflected in our most important decisions.

Furthermore, to boost autonomy and engagement in work, we concentrate on identifying the skills and competences of each mother.
When we have a clear understanding of what we know and can accomplish independently, it becomes easier to take courage and set professional objectives.

Moreover, we manage to stay motivated and actively work towards our goal.🎯

Self-compassion is one of the most powerful anchors we can develop in order to become our own friends and allies. When we manage to offer ourselves compassion, it becomes easier to:
👌look at ourselves with kindness and patience in challenging situations
👌become aware of the criticisms we think about ourselves
👌accept our mistakes
Is is important to do this in order to leave space for the mind to find healthy alternatives.

Sometimes we just need to take a step back to look at each other with (slightly) gentler eyes.

For vulnerable mothers, self-compassion can be a difficult process. Through our 𝐁𝐋𝐎𝐎𝐌💮project, we strive to support them in discovering and practicing this superpower. 💜
