Aviation English is the standardised form of English used by pilots and air traffic controllers to communicate clearly and safely over radio. It combines everyday English with specific aviation terminology and phraseology defined by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO).
Aviation English focuses on clarity, brevity, and accuracy, especially in time-critical or emergency situations. It includes standard phrases such as “affirm,” “negative,” and “standby,” as well as structured message formats for clearances, position reports, and read backs.
ICAO also sets language proficiency requirements (Levels 1–6), and pilots flying international routes must meet at least Level 4 (Operational) to ensure safe global communication.

Led by a certified trainer and experienced English teacher with 20 years in the aviation industry, this comprehensive course focuses on industry-specific vocabulary, effective verbal and non-verbal communication strategies, and practical scenarios relevant to aviation.

“It seems that a story breaks out every few weeks about a commercial flight attendant being assaulted on a passenger flight. Just last week, The New York Times released a story about an unruly passenger on an Alaska Airlines flight who threatened a flight attendant to end her life.
With flight attendants being essential to air travel and a significant part of the aviation industry, I turned to Rucsandra Magdalena Mihai, Founder and Managing Partner at TRAIN AVIATION. Mihai also serves as the Vice President of Women In Corporate Aviation. Rucsandra has over 30 years of experience working as a Corporate Flight Attendant, flying predominately in Africa, Europe, and the United States.

The history of flight attendants can be traced back to the early days of commercial aviation. In the 1920s and 1930s, air travel was still a relatively new mode of transportation, and airlines were looking for ways to make it more comfortable and appealing to passengers.
