September 21st is the International Day of Peace.

Do you remember that the EU was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2012?

"This prize is an honour but also a warning. We must not jeopardise our historical legacy and the peaceful future that awaits our children and grandchildren" said at that time Martin Schulz - European Parliament President.

"The reason why we have peace is thanks to the EU," he added, reminding that we should not take peace in Europe for granted.

Fight against terrorism, unemployment, or tax evasion... management of the migration crisis, external borders or climate change... those are the priorities of citizens vis-à-vis the UE, according to a recent opinion poll.

No doubt that the European Commission president, Jean-Claude Juncker, will strive to answer those concerns when he delivers his speech on the State of the European Union next Wednesday in front of the MEPs gathered in Strasbourg.

He will take stock of the past year's achievements and challenges, and will draw avenues for action for the coming year.
