Over the weekend, Twitter witnessed Elon Musk challenge United Nations World Food Program (WFP) Director David Beasley, who had told CNN that a one-time payment of 2 percent of Musk's wealth or any other billionaire's could solve global hunger.

Musk responded to the tweet with an agreement, stating that he could donate the money, amounting to around $6 billion, only if the UN comes up with the right solution and "open-source accounting, so the public sees precisely how the money is spent".

Beasley clarified what he had said before with the reply: "Headline not accurate. $6B will not solve world hunger, but it WILL prevent geopolitical instability, mass migration and save 42 million people on the brink of starvation. An unprecedented crisis and a perfect storm due to Covid/conflict/climate crises."

He continued: "With your help we can bring hope, build stability and change the future. Let's talk: It isn't as complicated as Falcon Heavy, but too much at stake to not at least have a conversation. I can be on the next flight to you. Throw me out if you don't like what you hear!"

Musk recently became the richest person in recorded history with a total worth of over $300 billion.
