Shantiniketan Indian School Celebrates Onam with Fervour
Shantiniketan Indian School celebrated the National festival of Kerala, Onam, with great enthusiasm and cultural splendor on the school premises. The grand celebration was inaugurated by the Principal, Mr. Rafeeq Rahim. In his inaugural address, he highlighted the significance of Onam as a festival of unity, prosperity and secular harmony, and appreciated the efforts of the staff in keeping cultural traditions alive away from home.
The main attraction of the day was a magnificent floral carpet (Pookkalam), intricately designed and laid on the school verandah by the teachers of the Malayalam Department in association with the Art Department. The vibrant Pookkalam, made with fresh flowers, drew the attention of all members. A colourful cultural programme was organised in the school hall. Teachers enthralled the audience with traditional Onam songs, Thiruvathirakkali and other group dances, capturing the true spirit of Kerala. Adding more fun to the festivities, recreational games such as the lemon and spoon race, Sundarikku Pottu Thodal and other traditional games were also conducted for the teachers.
The function was graced by Vice Principal Mr. Sujith Kumar, Senior Head Master Mr. Rafeeque Ahamed, Academic Supervisors, Ms. Nazia Saleem and Ms. Mehjabeen Hasan, Malayalam Department Head, Mr. Prasad P, Hindi Department Head, Mr. Varghese Antony and a large number of teachers from various departments. The celebration concluded with the message of Oneness and the traditional Onam greeting, leaving everyone with cherished memories of the homeland.
