The BRC had a seminar presented by Dr. Ibrahim Fawzy from HMC under the title: “Qatar Severe Respiratory Failure ECMO Program”. He explained how Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) works by oxygenating blood using an artificial lung outside of the body. It stabilizes a patient's severely diseased or damaged lungs and provides them with respiratory support. ECMO also supports the process of healing from infection by maintaining the supply of oxygen to the body while resting the lungs. He also talked about implementation and development of HMC’s ECMO Program.

استضاف مركز البحوث الحيوية الطبية محاضرة للدكتور إبراهيم فوزي من مؤسسة حمد الطبية بعنوان: "نظام الأكسجة الغشائي خارج الجسم" والذي يطلق عليه مجازاً اسم الرئة الاصطناعية، حيث يقوم هذا النظام على إمداد الدم بالأكسجين خارج الجسم لعلاج المرضى الذين يعانون من تلف في الرئتين أو من فشل في وظائفهما، كما يستخدم هذا النظام في معالجة الجسم من العدوى والالتهابات الحادة حيث يحافظ هذا النظام على ثبات إمداد الجسم بالأوكسجين مع المحافظة على راحة الرئتين أثناء عملية المعالجة كما تحدث عن تطبيق وتطوير هذا البرنامج في مؤسسة حمد الطبية.

The BRC hosted a seminar about a novel nucleotide sequencing technology: “Nanopore Sensing Technology and Applications for Nucleotide Sequencing”. The speakers demonstrated the prominent features and viewed a comparison between the novel technology and the other technologies currently available. A dry demo was held for researchers and those who are interested in biomedical research technologies. Date: 27th Sept. 2018

استضاف مركز البحوث الحيوية الطبية محاضرة تتحدث عن تكنولوجيا جديدة لتسلسل النوكليوتيدات: " تكنولوجيا الاستشعار للجزيئات متناهية الصغر (النانو) وتطبيقاتها لتسلسل النوكليوتيدات". تم من خلالها التحدث عن أبرز مميزات هذه التقنية ومقارنتها بالخيارات المتوفرة في حالياً. كما تم عرض الجهاز (عرض جاف) للباحثين والمهتمين بالتقنيات الحيوية. التاريخ: 27 سبتمبر 2018

The BRC had a seminar by Dr. Cristina Maccalli under the title: “The role of cancer stem cells in the immunomodulation of anti-cancer immune responses”. She said that tumor tissues comprise a rare subpopulation of cells, denominated cancer stem cell (CSCs) endowed with “stemness” properties. These cells have been identified as the component of tumors resistant to standard therapies as well as immunotherapy. She discussed the obtained results which showed that multiple mechanisms can regulate the immunosuppressive activity of the CSCs. Further investigations are undergoing to further dissect these mechanisms. Date: 20 Sept. 2018.

استضاف مركز البحوث الحيوية الطبية محاضرة للدكتورة كريستينا ماكاللي بعنوان: "دور الخلايا الجذعية السرطانية في التحصين المناعي للاستجابات المناعية المضادة للسرطان". تحدثت الدكتورة عن احتواء أنسجة الورم على مجموعة مختلفة من الخلايا السرطانية ومنها الخلايا الجذعية السرطانية والتي لها نفس خصائص الخلايا الجذعية، وقد تبين أهمية هذه الخلايا كعنصر مقاوم للعلاجات النموذجية وكذلك العلاج المناعي لأمراض السرطان. ناقشت الدكتورة النتائج التي تم الحصول عليها أن هناك أليات متعددة من خلالها الخلايا الجذعية السرطانية على تثبيط الجهاز المناعي. ويتطلب فهم هذه الآليات إجراء المزيد من الأبحاث في المستقبل. التاريخ: 20 سبتمبر 2018.

The BRC organized “Principles of Mammalian Cell Culture Training Course” for professionals and students. Participants attended theoretical and practical sessions for four days and received certificates upon completion. Date: 2nd-5th Sept 2018.

استضاف مركز البحوث الطبية ندوة بعنوان: "الفرص والتحديات في الممارسة الإكلينيكية والأكاديمية في علم الأحياء الدقيقة" ألقاها الدكتور بيتر كويل، حيث تحدث عن مجال المكروبيولوحيا الإكلينيكية وما يشهده من تطور واسع ومتسارع من الناحية التقنية والإكلينيكية في مقابل تراجع عالمي وضغط إقليمي لإعادة تعريف ما يفصل بين حياة الإنسان اليومية والإصابة بالعدوى، وتطرق لفرص البحث المشترك في هذا المجال بين مؤسسة حمد الطبية وجامعة قطر . 9 مايو 2018
The Biomedical Research Center had a seminar under the title "Challenges and Opportunities in the Practice of Clinical and Academic Microbiology" presented by Dr. Peter Coyle. He talked about clinical microbiology and their rapid development from the technical and clinical aspect against a backdrop of global and regional pressures that are redefining the boundary between infection and daily life. He also demonstrated the potential opportunities of collaboration between Hamad Medical Corporation and Qatar University in this area. 9th May 2018

The Biomedical Research Center participated in the Annual Research Forum and Exibition 2018. The center got the ISO certification for chemical testing. Dr. Nahla, Ms. Sara Taleb, Ms. Shilu Mathew and Ms. Maria Smatti won for their research posters. 1st and 2nd May 2018

استضاف مركز البحوث الطبية ندوة بعنوان: "جينوم الميتوكندريا والأمراض المرتبطة بالعمر" ألقاها الدكتور صالح إبراهيم، حيث تحدث عن الشيخوخة وكونها عامل خطر رئيس لكثير من الأمراض المزمنة، واستعرض أبحاثه مع فريقه في مجال التغييرات في الحمض النووي للميتوكندريا المرتبطة بالشيخوخة، وتحدث عن صعوبة تحديد تأثيرها ونتائجها الوظيفية ودورها بشكل دقيق في عملية تقدم السن في الوقت الراهن. 26 إبريل 2018

The Biomedical Research Center had a seminar under the title "Mitochondrial Genome and Age-related Diseases" presented by Dr. Saleh Ibrahim. He talked about aging as a major risk factor for many chronic diseases. He demonstrated his research projects with his team in the field of variations in mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) and their relation with aging. He also explained how challenging it is in the meanwhile to define their precise functional consequences, and their precise role in ageing. 26th April 2018

Zebrafish have become important as models for human disease over the past decades. We are hosting Dr Albert Willemsen today to give a lecture about “ the State of the art in zebrafish in vivo studies and behavioral studies”
