How to master the art of ordering a coffee in Portugal. 😌

On top of the different words you may use to order a coffee in Portugal, it's fascinating to learn how Portuguese people have dozens of ways to order their café, or 'bica' (Lisbon and South region), or 'cimbalino' (Porto):

Bica cheia, bica normal, italiana, em chávena escaldada, em chávena fria, carioca, café curto, café cheio, café pingado, ... And the list goes on and on. 😅

In Portugal, ordering a coffee is not merely that. It's a ritual and a form of communication between the client and the owner of the coffee shop. It's a way of bonding.

Learning Portuguese is much more than words. It's the best way to connect with your neighbors and with Mr. João from the cafe next door.

He'll make sure you have your coffee just the way you like it, whether it is the temperature of the cup or how strong you want your coffee to be (no kidding). That's the way Mr. João pampers his clients, and they love it.

That's how much it means to learn how to communicate with the locals in the community you're now living in. It means you are no longer a stranger and, day by day you begin to feel at home.
