The Intensive Workshop on Global Affairs will be a three-day event, open to PhD candidates, post-doc students and young researchers, from Portuguese and foreign institutions, held at the Faculty of Arts of the University of Porto, and whose aim is to allow the discussion of ongoing research work on International Relations and closely-related areas. The event is a natural follow-up of a previous Co
nference of Young Researchers on International Relations, which took place in 2014, also at the Faculty of Arts of the University of Porto, and which counted with the attendance of Stefano Guzzini and Christian Kaunert. This year, the theme of the workshop will be Plural Societies, Democracy and Power Dynamics and we welcome proposals focused on, but not restricted to, the following themes:
- Management of diversity and multicultural policies
- State violence over minorities
- Institutional arrangements in plural societies (federalism, power-sharing, consociationalism)
- Contemporary challenges to state stability and legitimacy
- Nationalism and collective identities
- Multilevel governance
- Social attitudes to diversity and immigration
- Democracy, political participation and citizenship
- Power dynamics and inequality in multicultural societies
