Do you already know the winners of World Merit's Challenge? Congratulations to Victor Maristane and Nida Javed! Victor's interactive webgame was truly innovative and was played over 7000 times in only a week and Nida's video was viewed over 8500 times.

We are super proud to announce the two winners of the June Media Challenge to get a place at Opportunity Collaboration in Mexico in October! They have told and created an amazing impact with their story. WORLD MERIT PORTUGAL: “AS ASSOCIAÇÕES ESTUDANTIS TÊM MUITA FORÇA” - JUP Iúri Ferreira é estudante de mobilidade na Faculdade de Economia da Universidade do Porto e fundou o escritório da World Merit em Portugal. A associação apoia e promove projetos de empreendedorismo e consciência social de jovens universitários.

Agent of the Week: Rita Casimiro
Hey world, have you met Rita yet?

Rita is 23 year old changemaker and currently a World Merit Fellow. As her master thesis Rita integrated the Social Investment Lab in Lisbon and developed a feasibility study for a Social Impact Bond in the area of Youth Unemployment. Rita has been actively involved in other projects of the Social Investment Lab and will formerly integrated it in September.

As a compliment to her studies, Rita has been involved in several other social initiatives. Last summer, she participated in a research study in the rural areas of Mozambique that aims to assess the impact of Mobile Banking. Currently, she has been part of the management team of the Nova Social Consultancy (NSC), a consultancy entirely run by students who support NGOs and Social Enterprises overcoming managerial challenges.

Rita dreams of one day supporting community development in Africa by investing in women’s education. She hopes to promote gender equality on a global scale by inspiring women to be leaders and stand up for their rights, regardless of their background.

In addition Rita is an advocate against domestic violence. She was involved in a project that consists of regular visits to high schools and providing young people, both boys and girls, with necessary tools to detect and act in such situations. She realizes the importance of speaking to these young people.

Due to her social awareness and involvement, she was invited to a citizenship television show to discuss some of the social work she’s been doing. Rita has previously served as the youngest volunteer of the Flight of Hope, a non-for profit mission, which aims to support the healthy and sustained development of African children, attending primary school, in regions of difficult access and high levels of poverty.

Every aspect of Ritas life is directed towards doing social good and we feel she couldn’t be more deserving of her title as Agent of the Week
