The second IASPM-Portugal international seminar will be held on 18 December 2023 in a hybrid format (Porto, Casa Comum + online), under the motto "DESTROY THE SILENCE".
With this event we intend to emphasise the forms and typologies of youth resistance in contemporary societies, which is related to a broader objective of uncovering new social and youth representations of social movements, but also of more or less latent cultural changes.
In this way, we intend to look at music as an expression of power, but also as a practice for contesting various social problems. At the same time, we intend to unveil some perspectives on music as a means of unravelling social reality. In fact, with the motto DESTROY THE SILENCE, we intend to encourage researchers, artists and the academic community to reflect theoretically and empirically on the dichotomies of resistance versus power, global versus local, action versus inertia, radicalism versus conformism.

Em mais uma parceria muito rica com Henrique Grimaldi Figueredo, tenho o prazer de anunciar a publicação do nosso artigo intitulado “CIVILIZATIONAL DISSENT AT LATE 1990’S: BODY, FASHION AND CLUB CULTURES IN CONTEMPORARY SOCIETY”.

Ethnomusicology Review, Volume 24 (2023) - Born to Be Alive: Contemporary Issues in Live Music Research (Special Issue)
Edited by Paula Guerra and Samuel Lamontagne
In 2019, before the COVID-19 pandemic put a stop to nearly all live cultural activity, Mark Savage painted a devastating portrait of the music industry’s state (Savage 2019). In the United States, record sales had dropped by about eighty percent in the 2010s: from four hundred fifty to eighty-nine million. From 2017 to 2018, worldwide record sales percentage plummeted an additional twenty-three percent. At the 2019 Grammy Awards, H.E.R.’s and Cardi B’s albums, two of the nominated projects for the “album of the year” category never had a physical release. The situation becomes even clearer when analyzing 2018’s top selling records: most of them were film soundtracks. How could the music industry face such challenges?
