Award Professor Manuel Medeiros Silva (formerly known as IEEE Portugal Outstanding Volunteer Award)

The IEEE Portugal Section has decided to update the title of this award to Award Professor Manuel Medeiros Silva. In recognition of his pioneering contribution to IEEE in Portugal and his lasting commitment to the engineering community, IEEE Portugal named this award in his honor, both to celebrate his legacy and to inspire and promote the values of excellence, engagement, and service that he helped establish.

Although the name of the award has been updated, its fundamental principles remain unchanged: to distinguish an outstanding member of the Section, regardless of membership grade:
● The member must not have received this award before;
● The nominee must not be a member of the Section Awards and Recognition Chair at the time the nominations and selection of the award;
● The nominee must not be a member of the ExCom for the time period of the award.

IEEE Portugal at the IEEE Region 8 Meeting

The 127th IEEE Region 8 Meeting of 2026 took place in Glasgow, bringing together IEEE leaders from across Europe, the Middle East and Africa, alongside the IEEE Sections Congress.

IEEE Portugal was proud to be represented at this gathering, taking part in discussions, sharing experiences and strengthening connections with Sections and IEEE leaders from across the region.

These meetings are an important opportunity to exchange ideas, learn from one another and bring new perspectives back to our IEEE community in Portugal. 🌍

🎓 Outstanding MSc Thesis Award 2026

Have you recently completed your Master's thesis in Portugal? Your work could be recognised by the IEEE Portugal Section! 🏆

The Outstanding MSc Thesis Award is open to students who publicly defended their Master's thesis between 1 August 2025 and 31 July 2026, provided the thesis falls within an IEEE technical or scientific area.

📅 Deadline: 24 September 2026
🏆 Awards will be announced during IEEE Engineering Day 2026, in November.
