An intensive 3-day programme aimed at writer-directors who wish to move from short film to feature film, or who have already made their first low-budget feature film. Ten selected participants will have the opportunity to develop their skill in story development, pitching & directing actors through practical lectures, workshops and master classes with industry professionals including: Jan Harlan, David Pope, Agnieszka Holland, Wojciech Marczewski, Krzysztof Zanussi and other prominent industry professionals.

Our financial assistance in the form of Scholarships and Bursaries, has been set up to promote cultural and social diversity within LFA and is available for our Filmmaking Diploma course only. These Scholarships and Bursaries are available to students whom the LFA consider to have demonstrated a high standard of work and work ethic through their supporting materials and interview, and whose financial circumstances would otherwise not permit attendance on the course. If you are applying for a Scholarship or a Bursary you must show a credible need for financial assistance through documentation and include a Personal Statement explaining reasons why you would like our financial assistance.
LFA Scholarship
There is one half-scholarship available per Filmmaking Diploma intake (e.g. the LFA Scholarship award for September 2011 intake amounted to £9,250 therefore a Scholarship student paid £9,250).
LFA Bursary
There are a few Bursary placements per Filmmaking Diploma intake available (e.g. the LFA Bursary award for September 2011 intake amounted to £5,000, therefore a Bursary student paid £13,500). LFA Bursaries are given on merit and at LFA's discretion. Students from outside of the EU (requiring Tier 4 visa to study in the UK) are not eligible for LFA Bursaries, however they are eligible for LFA half-scholarship.

GREAT OPPORTUNITY FOR 18-25 year olds...
Made your first short film and have ideas for a feature, but no finance?
First Light is looking for young filmmakers, or teams of young people to take part in a course which will help them find funding for their films. We have partnered with the Flatpack Festival and Creative Skillset to run a film financing course for young people during March which will provide all the tools needed to help get film projects off the ground.
The 4 day residential course will provide an insight into how to go about finding finance for film projects and also offers fantastic networking opportunities. Taught by experienced filmmakers, trainees will access practical workshops, talks and screenings. The course will:
• Develop knowledge concerning the different models of film financing
• Understand the link between finance and distribution
• Find out about new and innovative funding models
• Learn how to make use of digital technologies to identify audiences and raise funds pre and post production
• Improve skills in writing finance proposals and pitching documents
This opportunity is targeted towards 18-25 year olds.

GREAT OPPORTUNITY...
Global Grand Challenges short film competition 2013
There is just over two weeks remaining for you or your students to enter the Royal Academy of Engineering's short film competition, and a chance to win £5,000.
The competition runs in conjunction with the Global Grand Challenges Summit - highlighting the importance of engineering.
The summit is a major initiative by the national academies of engineering in the UK, the US and China, designed to bring together leading international innovators and young people to explore new approaches to solving some of the most pressing challenges of the 21st century.
The competition calls for creative 18-27 year-olds in the UK to produce a film of up to two minutes long, highlighting the importance of engineering and how engineers can tackle global grand challenges in areas that will be discussed at the summit, including: sustainability, enriching life, growth, resilience, health.
Short films using all production techniques from drama, experimental and documentary to animation, artist film and hybrid work are encouraged and films can be shot by a crew or even just with a mobile phone. They can be serious or amusing, but must be thought provoking.
The winner of the short film competition will receive a prize of £5,000, which will be presented at the Global Grand Challenges Summit in London, UK on 12 and 13 March 2013. The winner's film will also be shown at the event, hosting some of the world's best known innovators, alongside films by the winners of the US and Chinese Academies' short film competitions.
