UPCA | 1 Senior Technician | ID+ Research Unit – Institute for Research in Design, Media and Culture | Fixed-Term Contract of Uncertain Duration – SRH Notice No. 01/2026

A recruitment procedure is currently open, for a period of 5 working days, for the appointment of one Senior Technician, funded by the Agency for Research and Innovation (AI²), under reference UID/04057/2025, on an employment contract governed by the Portuguese Labour Code and subject to a fixed-term contract of uncertain duration, to perform duties at ID+ - Institute for Research in Design, Media and Culture, of the Polytechnic University of Cávado and Ave (UPCA).

ID+ UPCA will coordinate TIDER, a project funded by the Horizon Europe programme through the Twinning initiative, with 1.5 million euros over 36 months.

The international consortium brings together three partners from the RUN-EU European 🇪🇺 university alliance: NHL Stenden 🇳🇱, Technological University of the Shannon 🇮🇪 and Häme University of Applied Sciences 🇫🇮.

The project will develop a collaboration model involving universities, businesses, public institutions and communities, grounded in Design as a driver of innovation. It will be tested in real-world settings, focusing on the textile and fashion sectors and the cultural and audiovisual industries.

Listening is an exercise that requires time and attention. It is essential not only for strengthening our connection with ourselves, but also for cultivating imagination and developing the openness needed to understand, recognise, and express new languages.
This spirit defined our series of talks during the Summer School, held from 21 to 24 July, both in person and online at ID+ IPCA, in Barcelos.
We would like to thank our guest speakers, Claudia Lima, Luisa Arruda, Mattia Ronconi, Palloma Fernandes, and João Cóser, for sharing their knowledge and perspectives with us. We would also like to thank everyone who took part. It was a truly enriching practice of dialogue and exchange.

Our FCT Tenure Researcher ID+IPCA, Luisa Mendes Arruda, represented ID+ at the Science and Innovation 2026 event, held in Lisbon and organised by the Portuguese Agency for Research and Innovation (AI2). The event offered valuable insights into the Portuguese Government’s strategic vision for research and innovation, while also providing the opportunity to participate in the Horizon Europe Implementation Day. During this session, experts from the European Commission shared practical guidance, best practices, and the latest updates on the implementation of the Horizon Europe programme.

From 21 to 24 July, the ID+ IPCA Summer School will host a series of talks bringing together researchers and invited speakers from Portugal and abroad to share their work, research and perspectives across a wide range of design-related fields.
The programme explores topics including sustainable design, material-driven design, documentary animation, graffiti writing, cultural heritage, artistic research and informal cultural practices, offering participants the opportunity to engage with current research and diverse approaches to design and innovation.

We are pleased to invite submissions for the Performativity(ies) of Memory(ies) Interdisciplinary Conference 2026, which will take place on 22–23 October 2026 at the School of Education of the Polytechnic Institute of Viana do Castelo, Portugal.

The conference aims to explore the intersections between performativity and memory in contemporary artistic, cultural, and research practices, bringing together interdisciplinary perspectives from the arts, humanities, and social sciences.

Keynote speakers: Paloma G. Diaz (Universitat Oberta de Catalunya, Spain), Alison Matthews (University of Salford, UK), André Barata (University of Beira Interior, Portugal) and Ana Cristina Pereira a.k.a. Kitty Furtado (Communication and Society Research Centre – CECS, Portugal).
