Ocean Care - Erasmus 229

ErasmusDays was celebrated at Arkas Science and Art Center, Izmir-Türkiye.

Within the scope of held between 14-19 October 2024, the subject and studies of our Erasmus+ KA229 project titled "There is sea and sea... there is an entire ocean to take care of!" was introduced to the new students of our Center in “Support Training Program” by the school coordinator.

In the program; the students of Special Skills Development Program-2 in English made a presentation about plastic waste and its harmful effects on the environment, and solutions to reduce plastic waste were discussed with the students.

In the "Marine Plasticology Workshop" conducted under the guidance of class teachers, our students of Support Training Program learned how human activities affect the oceans (pollution, changes in coastal areas and rivers, etc.), what marine plasticology is, the importance of the OCEAN for EVERYONE; They learned how plastic reaches the sea, the consequences of this invasion, the type of garbage found on our country's beaches (amounts and decomposition time), the concept of ocean gyre and how plastics (micro, nano) enter the food chain.

At the end of the program, the project song "Leave Nothing Behind" was performed by the students of Special Skills Development Program-3 in Music.

"Water, there's only one" Illustration Competition - Escola Azul (Blue School) Challenge 2023-24.
Padlet created as part of the challenge for the 2023/24 academic year, promoted by Escola Azul, in partnership with HIDROVAL and Pavilhão da Água (Water Pavilion).
Schools are challenged to send illustrations that reflect different perspectives and aspects related to water, with a special focus on its sustainability. This resource aims to bring together all the works in the competition and, in the end, 3 illustrations per school are selected. These illustrations will be sent to the Escola Azul National Coordination and may become part of a Hidroval calendar. Internally, with these illustrations, we will create an AEMA calendar.

With the aim of disseminating our Erasmus+ KA229 project titled "There is sea and sea... there is an entire ocean to take care of!" to our new students,"Marine Plasticology Sessions" were held on October 14, 2023, with the Support students who have started our Center in 2023-2024 Education Year.

With this activity, our students learned how human activities affect the oceans (pollution, changes in coastal areas and rivers, etc.); what marine plasticology is, the importance of the OCEAN for EVERYONE; how plastic entered the marine environment, the consequences of this invasion, and the type of garbage found on our country's beaches (amounts and decomposition time); They also understood the concept of ocean gyres and how plastics (micro, nano) enter the food chain.

Following the activity carried out to mark Blue School Day, European Day of the Sea and Ocean Day, an activity entitled “My Footprint”, 2B students and Prof. Cátia Fonseca set up this exhibition, which is on display at EB1/JI Porto Pinheiro.
