Your English Self

Your English Self I help people move from feeling reluctant, shy, anxious, nervous, or frustrated when they speak English, to communicating confidently and effectively.

Hi, I’m Lisa, Language Coach for professionals who want to express their ideas confidently and effectively without freezing, doubting themselves or apologising for their English. I help you discover what is holding you back and give you the strategies you need to build confidence and break down barriers so you can tell your stories in your world.

You've prepared. Really prepared.

You memorised your lines on the loo, in the car, in the kitchen while you were cooking dinner...

You went over it again and again until you knew it word for word.

So why do you go quiet in your meeting?

Because the conversation didn't follow your script.

Someone said something you didn't plan for, and your words disappeared.

Here's what I tell my clients:

You can't guarantee which way a spontaneous conversation goes.

❌ So instead of memorising scripts...

✅ Learn strategies that keep you IN the conversation...
..whatever direction it takes.

That's one of the things we do inside YES to Fluency Accelerator.

A new group starts September.

Comment or send me "YES" if you're curious.

"Doubt kills more dreams than failure ever will." — Suzy Kassem

Ever let self-doubt talk you out speaking English?

Most people think the gap between "stuck" and "speaking up" is more English.

It's often not.

It's self-trust.

That's one of the things we work on inside YES to Fluency Accelerator.

Not knowing everything will go perfectly, but trusting yourself to find your way when it doesn't.

A new group starts in September.

How could I have been so stupid 🤦🤦🤦

I built six modules for YES to Fluency Accelerator, each one solving a real problem.

What I didn't do was show my clients how they fit together...
.. until one day, by accident, I did, and the group was gobsmacked!!!

Because it's not six separate things to learn.

It's ONE path, and each step opens the next...

You can't build habits until you're clear on where you're going.

You can't speak more naturally until those habits are in place.

You can't face the fear stories that keep you quiet until those habits are steady.

And you can't really connect until you've faced them.

By the end, it's not that you've ticked off six modules. It's that you can say:

✅ I know where I'm going.

✅ I know how to keep showing up.

✅ I know what to do when I speak.

✅ I trust myself enough to do it.

✅ I use English to connect.

✅ I know how to continue growing.

"I'm a writer, not an editor. So if I make a typo or a mistake, take it as part of the job." ― Mitta Xinindlu

Love this quote.

Because it's not just about writing...

If you're speaking English...

✅ you're a speaker

❌ not an editor

Mistakes aren't proof you're doing it wrong.

They're proof you're DOING it.

That doesn't mean ignoring them. Notice what you can learn, then let it go.

There's a difference between REFLECTING on a mistake and REPLAYING it on a loop for the rest of the day.

One helps you grow, the other just keeps you stuck.

Most people either wait until the sentence is "right" before they say or they go quiet instead of risking the mistake.

And keep thinking about what they said "wrong" long after the conversation's over.

But speaking is the job. The mistake is just part of the job.

This is what I shared this week in my Take Action Live, a short weekly session inside my community where we take one idea like this and turn it into one small, doable step.

No long lectures, just one thing you can actually try.

This week's Take Action challenge, catch yourself mid-mistake and just keep going.

Say this to yourself if you need to: "Part of the job."

Then carry on.

Instead of constantly trying to get the sand out of your hair, just go with it, eating your sandwich with a bit of sand in it won't kill you 😉

The excuse list was long...

😫 No thin summer socks (they didn't make it from the washing machine back to my drawer)

😫 25° at 9am 🥵

😫 A wine and a caipirinha last night (oops)

Every reason to skip the run.

But I ran anyway.

Why?

Because today's aim was simply to show up and put in the reps.

Slow, short, it didn't matter.

Here's what I've learned, in running and in English:

Consistency doesn't need your best day. It needs you to show up on the average one too.

My tip for today...

Don't wait for the "good" day to show up. Show up on the average one as well, with a minimum version.

Running:

Good day: run 6/7 km

Average day: run for 20 minutes and don't worry about the speed or the distance, just run 🏃‍♀️

English:

Good day: listen to a podcast

Average day: listen to 5 minutes of a podcast

Congratulate yourself, you showed up 👏

Bad day? Take it off and don't beat yourself up about it 😉

This is exactly what we build inside YES to Fluency Accelerator, a consistent English practice that works around your life, for the good days, the average days and the bad days.

👉 I'm taking a week off from 9th August to go and watch the solar eclipse with friends ☀️🌑 so if you've been thinking about joining the next Y2FA group in September, now's a good time to grab a call with me before I disappear.

❗Only 6 places this round, so I can promise everyone the time and space they deserve.

Comment or message me "CHAT" and let's talk!

Do you ever smile when you don't feel like smiling?

You know that fake smile...
.. on the outside everything looks ok.

But on the inside, you're dying...

That's me and running 😅

And it used to be me and French & Spanish

Smiling and nodding along in every conversation but inside...

Beating myself up for not saying the thing I wanted to say

Angry that I couldn't speak ("coward" I told myself)

Frustrated that I couldn't do what everyone else was doing... join in the conversation and share their expertise, opinions in English (even when it wasn't perfect)

Today it's very different (apart from the imperfect Spanish - that's still true!)

I join in conversations 🙂

How did I do it?@

I changed my mindset, habits and behaviours...

Nothing to do with the language - I realised I had plenty of that so I stopped making it about studying more grammar and memorising more vocabulary

And that's what I help people do now. Make the same changes I did so they can join in conversations and feel more like themselves.

It's not about learning more, more, more, it's about using the English you already have to share your expertise, your opinions, connect with people... (that's how you improve your English too!)

Curious?

Comment "CHAT" and I'll send you the link to book a quick chat and see if my approach is the right approach for you! No pressure 😉

Someone will always try to sell you the "fancy" stuff.

The stuff that will work miracles 🪄

And sometimes I'm tempted too 🤭

Because buying something new feels productive.

It feels like you're doing something.

But then I remind myself what it is that gets results...

The REPS (doing the thing again and again and again...)

Running or English, it's all the same.

Want running to feel easier?

Run!

Want speaking English to feel easier?

Speak!

The biggest results rarely come from finding the "perfect" app or course.

They come from using your English consistently, even when it feels uncomfortable.

Even when you don't feel ready.

Even when it's imperfect.

Believe me, I know!

Just don't ask me how long if took me to realise, and start using my imperfect Spanish (and literally change my life!) 🤦

That's why YES to Fluency Accelerator is different to traditional English courses.

It's about helping you actually start putting in the reps from day 1, without pressure, without stress... we do it The CALM Way™

🌱 Community gives you a safe place to speak, experiment and make mistakes without fear of judgement.

🎯 Your personal Action Plan helps you stop wondering what to do next, so you can spend your energy using English instead of planning to use it.

🗣️ Language helps you use the English you already have more confidently instead of always feeling you need more and build on that.

🧠 Mindset helps you quiet that annoying voice in your head so you keep showing up, even when speaking feels uncomfortable.

Speaking English with more ease doesn't come from having all the things and "looking" prepared.

It comes from putting in the reps 💪

If you're ready to start USING your English, I'd love to welcome you into the September group of YES to Fluency Accelerator.

Because the best investment you can make isn't another resource.

It's investing in the support, structure and practice that helps you use your English FOR LIFE 😉

27/06/2026

I'll admit it...

I used to be super sceptical about this.

But the more I learned, the more curious (and convinced) I became.

Research says that regularly practising GRATITUDE 🙏 can:

✅ improve sleep

✅ reduce stress

✅ build resilience

✅ strengthen relationships

✅ increase happiness.

That doesn't mean ignoring difficult emotions or pretending everything is fine.

It just means training your brain to notice what's still good, alongside everything that's hard.

✅ Which means a calmer brain 🧠

✅ And a calmer brain = more speaking English (if you don't know why, sign up for my weekly emails, the CALM 3 thats mostly what I bang on about 😅)

So here's a little experiment to try tonight.

Before you go to sleep, ask yourself:

What's one thing I'm genuinely grateful for today?

Then do it the next day and the day after that...

And if this has caught your attention and you want to explore some more...

Join me for Joyful July 😊

For 21 days in July, we're sharing one thing we're grateful for each day.

Everyone is welcome, whether you're already in the YES community or not (teachers, friends, you're all welcome too 😉)

It only takes a couple of minutes a day, but it's a great opportunity to engage with English in a completely stress-free way.

And on top of that, you get all the benefits of a regular gratitude practice!

Comment "Joy" and I'll send the link to jump straight in.

Totally free.

Don't believe the hype!

It's not all about more words, more grammar, more learning, more study, more hours...

It's about something teachers don't often (if ever) talk about in traditional English classes...

TRUST

The English you trust yourself to use.

You know the feeling...

You have something to say, but hesitate.

You search for the perfect word.

You replay conversations afterwards thinking, "Why didn't I just speak?"

So, what if you tried something different this summer?

Instead of focusing on LEARNING more English...

What if you focused on USING more of the English you already have?

Imagine:

☀️ Saying yes to more conversations

☀️ Sharing your thoughts without rehearsing every sentence

☀️ Focusing on connection instead of perfection

☀️ Trusting yourself enough to join in, even when you don't have the perfect words

That's exactly what we'll explore in the Summer Reset: Play & Connection Edition.

A practical 90-minute workshop to help you:

✨ Let go of some of the pressure you put on yourself

✨ Use more of the English you already know

✨ Create more opportunities for connection this summer

✨ Leave with one simple, playful experiment to try

Confidence doesn't come from perfect English, it grows slowly but surely when you start using the English you already have.

You don't stop worrying about what people think of you and your English by CONSUMING more English.

You stop worrying about it by USING the English you already have

And this is where it all starts...

The Summer Reset Workshop: Play & Connection Edition ☀️

A practical workshop to help you move from overthinking to connecting, from consuming to participating, and from waiting...
