CQE celebrates excellence during the celebration of 115 Years of CIÊNCIAS ULisboa!
Jorge Correia and Marta Sousa Silva received the Excellence in Teaching Award and Ana Viana earned an Honorable Mention.
These awards reflect the voices of our students during the 2024/2025 academic year, recognizing dedication, quality teaching, and impact.
During the celebrations, Fernando Antunes shared the story of Delox, a powerful example of how fundamental research can lead to real societal change.

On April 15th, CQE took part in Jobshop 2026, hosted by CIÊNCIAS ULisboa, connecting students and recent graduates with opportunities in research and industry.
On the second day, we hosted a booth where we showcased our work and engaged with future talent. The recruitment session also helped identify potential students to join CQE.
We also highlight our participation in a session on scientific and ethical challenges in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries, reinforcing the importance of collaboration between academia and industry.

PhD at CQE advances molecular catalysts for CO₂ conversion
Congratulations to Marcos A. Bento on completing his PhD at CQE, Faculdade de Ciências, ULisboa. His research developed molecular catalysts for CO₂ conversion, including iron photocatalysts with TON >1300 and rhenium complexes reaching TON ≈1500 for CO₂ photoreduction, while also exploring plasma-assisted CO₂ conversion.

CQE at Técnico Open Day 2026
On 18 April, Técnico ULisboa opened its doors at Alameda Campus, welcoming visitors of all ages to explore science in action.
CQE researchers engaged the public through interactive activities, showcasing how chemistry and engineering contribute to real-world solutions - from sustainable materials and environmental monitoring to CO₂ conversion and biomedical applications.
From corrosion protection and energy storage (Tiago Paiva) to environmental analysis (Carlos E. Monteiro), carbon capture (Karina Shimizu & Carmen Bacariza), and biomaterials for healthcare (Ana Paula Serro), visitors experienced science in an accessible and hands-on way.
The event also featured Maria João Ferreira and Laura Esteves, inspiring younger audiences to explore science and research.
CQE’s participation highlights its commitment to science communication and public engagement.

🏆 Best Oral Communication Award @ IBiCC 2026
Marco Sá, PhD student at the MARC Lab (CQE), received the Best Oral Communication Award at IBiCC 2026, held at Faculdade de Ciências da Universidade de Lisboa.
His presentation, “FGFR-Targeted ruthenium–peptide conjugates with pH-responsive linkers for selective breast cancer therapy”, was recognised for its scientific quality and impact.

Alberto Romão Dias Prize 2026
Pedro Teixeira Gomes has been awarded the Alberto Romão Dias Prize 2026, recognising outstanding research in inorganic, organometallic and bioinorganic chemistry.
The award was presented during IBiCC 2026, where he delivered an invited lecture as part of the scientific programme.
This distinction highlights the excellence of research linked to the CQE community, recognising a distinguished career contributing to advances in organometallic chemistry and positioning him among leading researchers in the field.

CQE at IBiCC 2026
The 15th edition of IBiCC 2026 took place at the Faculdade de Ciências da Universidade de Lisboa, hosted by Carla Nunes (CQE), President of the Division of Inorganic and Bioinorganic Chemistry of the SPQ at the time of the conference.
CQE members played an active role in the organisation of the conference - including Ana Isabel Tomaz, Olinda Monteiro, Sara Realista, Tânia Morais and Vânia André - and contributed to the scientific programme across key areas of inorganic and bioinorganic chemistry.
IBiCC 2026 provided a strong platform for scientific exchange, collaboration and community building.
