Made up of highly motivated and educated students from ISCTE Business School, ranging from Undergraduates to Masters students.

ITIC is a non-profit student organization of ISCTE Business School, who promotes training and research in many business and investment areas, such as Investment Banking, Asset Management, Portfolio and Risk Management and Corporate Finance. Gluing these minds together are our shared work ethics, team spirit, and above all, our goals in bringing a new concept to all students at ISCTE-IUL. We want t

o train those students to become on the edge analysts, in the financial markets and macroeconomics field;
Export the quality of ISCTE-IUL to higher grounds;

🇬🇧 We continue to grow, both in terms of quality and members. The club aims to train the best professionals in the financial sector and the new ITIC members are now part of the elite of students.

On April 30th, we held a Welcome Day where members had the opportunity to get to know each other better and we also had the presence of .trading, Head of Trading Platforms & Brokerages & Research at BIG - Banco de Investimento Global.

🇬🇧 ITIC is a Club divided into six departments, four operational - Research, Asset Management, Quantitative Strategies and Marketing - and two structural - External Relations and Human Resources.

Each department is responsible for different tasks that meet our mission and vision. We work as a team to achieve our goals and promote financial literacy.

We want to give a special thanks to the Founders of ITIC for not giving up on creating this Club, which today has 5 years of existence. Starting an organization from scratch requires passion and dedication.

Our success can only be explained by the quality of our team. It would be impossible to get where we are today without the work, commitment and effort of all the people who passed through here. Thank you to each Board, to all the Members and Alumni who have helped ITIC to grow over the last few years. We also thank the people who have shown interest in our work and who motivate us to improve.

🇬🇧 The Bank Panic of 1907 was a banking and financial crisis that took place for 6 weeks at the beginning of the 20th century. This crisis had occurred due to the fall of speculative investments which were highly leveraged and driven by monetary policies that increased the money supply. This all took place during a time of economic recession which added to the short-lived panic and caused many bank runs due to the general public’s lack of trust in the financial industry at the time.

Since the United States did not have a government central bank to help with the situation at the time, the country’s financial markets ended up getting bailed out by J.P. Morgan, John D. Rockefeller, and other top investors and financers that helped immensely in stabilizing the panic within the industry.

This panic exposed several massive problems in the sector after things had cooled down, therefore this event helped lead to the creation of the Federal Reserve System to prevent the same issue from happening moving forward.

🇵🇹 O pânico bancário de 1907 foi uma crise bancária e financeira que durou 6 semanas no início do século XX. Esta crise ocorreu devido à queda dos investimentos especulativos que foram altamente alavancados e impulsionados por políticas monetárias que aumentaram a oferta de dinheiro. Tudo isto ocorreu durante um período de recessão económica que se juntou ao pânico de curta duração e causou o chamado "bank run" devido à falta de confiança do público em geral na indústria financeira da época.

Uma vez que os Estados Unidos não tinham um banco central governamental para ajudar com a situação na altura, os mercados financeiros do país acabaram por ser salvos por J.P. Morgan, John D. Rockefeller, e outros investidores de topo que ajudaram imensamente a estabilizar o pânico no seio da indústria.

Este pânico expôs vários problemas maciços no sector depois de terem estabilizado, pelo que este evento ajudou a criar o Sistema da Reserva Federal para evitar que o mesmo problema avançasse.

🇬🇧 Happy International Women’s Day from the ITIC team!

The presence of women in the financial sector is still scarce, especially at the top of hierarchies. Although the percentage of men and women entering this industry is roughly equal, men generally rise to the top faster than women. However, there is a greater focus on improving diversity, and the overall proportion of women in this sector.

Why are there so few women working in finance? There are a couple motives why women may not be ascending to the highest levels as swiftly as men as regards to gender equality. One is a shortage of role models: without more female examples leading the way, women entering the sector may find the path more difficult to navigate or may not even be aware that one exists. Furthermore, some women have expressed concerns about work-life balance and others have cited an absence of assistance from management.

🇵🇹 Feliz Dia Internacional da Mulher da equipa do ITIC!

A presença de mulheres no sector financeiro é ainda escassa, especialmente no topo das hierarquias. Embora a percentagem de homens e mulheres que entram nesta indústria seja sensivelmente igual, os homens geralmente sobem até ao topo mais rapidamente do que as mulheres. No entanto, há um maior foco na melhoria da diversidade, e a proporção global de mulheres neste sector.

Porque é que há tão poucas mulheres a trabalhar em finanças? Há alguns motivos para as mulheres não ascenderem tão rapidamente aos níveis mais elevados como os homens no que diz respeito à igualdade de género. Um é a falta de modelos a seguir: sem mais exemplos femininos a liderar o caminho, as mulheres que entram no sector podem ter mais dificuldade em percorrer o caminho ou podem nem sequer ter consciência de que existe um. Além disso, algumas mulheres expressaram preocupações sobre o equilíbrio entre a vida profissional e familiar e outras citaram uma ausência de assistência por parte da gestão.
