At BSL, we believe in giving back to our community and supporting causes that make a meaningful difference. Over the coming weeks, our students will be leading two important charity initiatives, and we would be delighted if our school community could get involved.
🥫 Banco Alimentar Lisboa Food Collection
From 1st–5th June, our Restelo Charity Club will be collecting donations for Banco Alimentar Lisboa, which supports individuals and families in need across the Lisbon region through local charities and community organisations.
We would be very grateful for donations of dried and long-life food items, including:
• Rice and pasta
• Flour and sugar
• Tinned foods
• Other non-perishable goods
Donations can be dropped off at the Restelo Reception throughout the week.
🏃 Sports Day Fundraising for Hope for Humanity
This year's Sports Day will also support Hope for Humanity, a charity that works to bring hope and positive change to vulnerable communities around the world. The charity supports a wide range of projects, including emergency aid, livelihood programmes and, most notably, access to education.
A cause particularly close to our hearts is the charity's work in building schools and creating educational opportunities for children who might otherwise have no access to education. Following a recent visit to Pakistan by our own Ms Ashiq, an urgent need for a new school was identified, and funds raised through this initiative will help support that project.
As we were unfortunately unable to hold the Fun Run planned for this term, donations for Hope for Humanity will be collected during Sports Day. We hope to build on this support by holding a community Fun Run in the Autumn Term.
A huge thank you in advance to our students, families and staff for their generosity and support. Every donation, no matter the size, will help make a positive difference.

A huge thank you to Anton Tohill and Tom from Lisbon Celtiberos GAA and GAA Portugal for bringing the energy, enthusiasm, and excitement of Gaelic football to BSL Restelo.
Anton, a qualified medical doctor, mental health workshop leader, and accomplished Gaelic and Australian Rules footballer, inspired our students through engaging and dynamic sessions that introduced them to this fantastic sport.
The level of participation and enthusiasm from our students was incredible, and it was wonderful to see so many of them embracing a new sporting experience with such positivity and enjoyment.
We are excited about the possibility of developing Gaelic football further within our PE curriculum and look forward to welcoming Anton and Tom back to BSL in the future. .portugal, .celtiberos, ,

We are incredibly proud that BSL is taking part in this year’s Pig Parade in Estremoz this weekend.
Our two pigs, PatchWork and Jeremy, beautifully decorated by our students, are now making their way to Estremoz to join over 30 unique sculptures created by Portuguese and international artists as part of this wonderful charity urban art festival.
The Pig Parade celebrates creativity, community and the power of art to make a difference. Each life-sized pig sculpture will be auctioned in support of the Sovereign Art Foundation, helping to fund creative workshops, therapeutic art programmes and motion-therapy classes for vulnerable children across Portugal.
We are so proud of the creativity, imagination and teamwork shown by our students throughout this project and cannot wait to see our BSL pigs on display this weekend!

What does it really take to achieve something extraordinary?
In a powerful new article, our Head of PE, Carlos Regatero, reflects on completing the gruelling 100km Ultra Sierra Nevada race and the lessons it taught him about resilience, discipline, passion and the importance of community support.
From running through snow-covered mountain trails overnight to balancing intense training alongside teaching, Carlos shares a truly inspiring perspective on what it means to “fall to the level of your systems” and why resilience is built long before the finish line.
A fantastic reflection not only on endurance sport, but on the values we strive to nurture within our students every day.

We are incredibly proud of our students who recently took part in Rising Stars at the beautiful Igreja Lusitana Catedral de S. Paulo.
This special event showcased a selection of our primary students performing in a unique acoustic setting, creating a truly memorable experience for both performers and the audience. It was a wonderful opportunity for our young musicians to shine and demonstrate their confidence, skill and passion for music.
This event is a true testament to the strength of our music programme here at BSL. A huge thank you to our students for their incredible performances, and to our dedicated music team for their continued support, guidance and commitment.

Our Year 5 students had an incredible time on their residential trip to My Camp last week.
Over three fun-filled, exciting and at times challenging days, they took on activities such as zip lining, the leap of faith, archery and so much more. Throughout the experience, every child showed remarkable resilience, kindness and good humour. Supporting one another and embracing every new challenge with confidence.
We are so proud of what they have achieved, both individually and as a group.
