*We are growing together once again!*
After the incredible success and impact of our first edition, where we brought together over 100 migrant parents, 73 children, and educational teams, we are thrilled to announce that we have officially started the project again! 🎉
With the continued support of Junta de Freguesia de Santa Maria Maior, we are partnering once more with Centro Social do Menino de Deus, Centro Social e Paroquial de Alfama, and Creche Encosta do Castelo (SCML).
Our mission remains the same: creating spaces for listening, building bridges, and reinforcing inclusive, culturally sensitive practices in early childhood education through new participatory sessions, intercultural events, and health workshops.
We can't wait to welcome new families, collaborate with amazing professionals, and continue growing together.

Depois do sucesso e impacto da primeira edição, que reuniu mais de 100 pais e mães migrantes, 73 crianças e equipas educativas, temos o prazer de anunciar o arranque de uma nova edição do projeto! 🎉
Com o apoio contínuo da Junta de Freguesia de Santa Maria Maior, voltamos a trabalhar em parceria com o Centro Social do Menino Deus, o Centro Social e Paroquial de Alfama e a Creche Encosta do Castelo (SCML).
A nossa missão mantém-se: criar espaços de escuta e diálogo, construir pontes entre famílias e instituições e reforçar práticas inclusivas e culturalmente sensíveis na educação de infância, através de sessões participativas, encontros interculturais e ações de promoção da saúde.
Estamos entusiasmados por acolher novas famílias, colaborar com profissionais dedicados e continuar a crescer juntos.

On 21 April 2026, NIALP successfully held the final One Step Conference at Hospital Dona Estefânia with the support of the Comission for Diversity and Inclusion of the São José Health Unit 🏥💙, bringing together around 100 healthcare professionals and participants to discuss diversity in healthcare, health literacy, inclusion, and equitable access to health services.
This event marked the successful completion of the One Step project, funded by AIMA, after one year of dedicated work, collaboration, and community engagement. Throughout the project, participants gained valuable knowledge, strengthened community connections, and contributed to promoting health literacy and more inclusive healthcare for diverse communities. 🌱✨
We would like to thank all healthcare professionals, partners, and participants whose commitment, and support made this project a great success.

No dia 21 de abril de 2026, a NIALP organizou a Conferência final do projeto "Um Passo", no Hospital Dona Estefânia com o apoio da Comissão para a Diversidade e Inclusão da ULS S. José 🏥💙, reunindo cerca de 100 profissionais de saúde e participantes para discutir diversidade nos cuidados de saúde, literacia em saúde, inclusão e acesso equitativo aos serviços de saúde.

Este evento marcou a conclusão do projeto "Um Passo", financiado pela AIMA! Após um ano de trabalho dedicado, colaboração e envolvimento comunitário. Ao longo do projeto, os participantes adquiriram conhecimentos valiosos, fortaleceram ligações comunitárias e contribuíram para a promoção da literacia em saúde e de cuidados de saúde mais inclusivos para comunidades diversas. 🌱✨

How can we improve immigration services in Portugal?
Your voice matters — and this is your chance to be heard.

We are inviting migrants living in Portugal to join the Migrant Citizens’ Assembly in Lisbon. This is a space to share your experiences, discuss challenges, and contribute to real recommendations that can improve the system.

Last February 14th we created the beautiful performance BHAVANDHAAM promoted by and directed by and integrated in the exhibition ÍNSULA by the artists and Rita.ra

The performers created a house / home / temple–inspired art piece, sharing with the audience what it means to live in a different country, learn a new language, and find a new sense of home.

By bringing elements of diverse cultures and sharing them with us, they created something truly meaningful. It was beautiful.

As part of the One Step project, funded by AIMA, NIALP organized three maternal health workshops 🤰🏽🤱🏻💖

The sessions focused on preparation for birth, newborn care, and emotional wellbeing, equipping participants with essential knowledge and practical guidance for their motherhood journey.

During the workshop, participants shared powerful reflections such as:
“When I was pregnant I didn’t know NIALP, so I was missing a lot of things.”
“It is good to meet each other and share.”

Maternity can often feel like a rollercoaster of emotions—beautiful, overwhelming, and at times difficult to navigate. This space allowed women to learn, share experiences, and support one another through every stage of motherhood. 🌿

We want to thank the Portuguese Health Literacy Society for the valuable partnership and health professionals who conducted the session with care and empathy.

As sessões centraram-se na preparação para o parto, nos cuidados ao recém-nascido e no bem-estar emocional, proporcionando às participantes conhecimentos essenciais e orientações práticas para a sua jornada na maternidade.

Durante os workshops, as participantes partilharam reflexões marcantes, como:

“Quando estive grávida, não conhecia a NIALP, por isso perdi muitas coisas.”
“É bom conhecermo-nos e partilhar.”

A maternidade pode ser uma verdadeira montanha-russa de emoções — bonita, intensa e, por vezes, difícil de gerir. Estes encontros criaram um espaço seguro e acolhedor onde as mulheres puderam aprender, partilhar experiências e apoiar-se mutuamente em todas as fases da maternidade 🌿

Queremos agradecer à Sociedade Portuguesa de Literacia em Saúde pela valiosa parceria, bem como aos profissionais de saúde que conduziram as sessões com tanto cuidado e empatia.

As part of the "Healthy Begnning" BIPZIP Project (2024-25) and with the support of the Social Prescription project of ULS S.José, we have developed different Health Guide to promote better health and well-being in our communities. Learn about:

- Portuguese Vaccination Programme

The guide is available in four languages: English, Nepali, Bengali and Hindi.
