📚 At the beginning of June, we had the pleasure of being visited by a group from the organization Núcleo de Inclusão, Comunicação e Media, which is developing an international project within Erasmus+ called “Democracy under pressure: the role of nonviolent communication”.

Integrated into their training course on shaping democracy through nonviolent communication, this visit allowed us to share UNU-EGOV’s mission and role and to discuss the implications and consequences of using digital technologies when building strong, empowered, and sustainable communities.

💡As their course was focused on the importance of strengthening political literacy, critical thinking and participation, in a context where democracy faces increasing challenges, such as disinformation, polarization and the manipulation of young people, we also had the chance to promote a debate on these matters.

UNU-EGOV’s researcher Bushra Ebadi discussed with the group how storytelling can be used to build narratives for transformative change. The discussion addressed questions of authorship and representation, as well as strategies to challenge dominant narratives, which have historically contributed to exclusion, marginalisation, and injustice in areas such as security, development, and technology.

📢 The first meeting of the InovaJuntos Portugal Network took place in Guimarães on 2–3 June, in the context of the Municipality’s adherence to the Network’s Cooperation Agreement.

Their agenda included a visit to UNU-EGOV on the first day and was a great opportunity for us to share our work and mission.

The delegation was welcomed by the UNU-EGOV Director, Delfina Soares, alongside Deputy Director Luís Barbosa and researchers Joana Carvalho, Mariana Lameiras and Luís Nuno Barbosa, who provided a broad scope of the diverse work we develop towards capacity building and digital tools for more transparent and efficient governance.

This meeting was a unique opportunity to the continued effort of working with government officials and representatives to build bridges between our research and projects and the policies on digital governance in our country.

🎤 UNU-EGOV’s Principal Research Specialist, Morten Meyerhoff Nielsen, was recently interviewed by User Needs First (Gebruiker Centraal) following discussions at the Gebruiker Centraal Conference in March 2026.

During the conference, Denmark was repeatedly highlighted in a panel discussion on digitalisation strategies as a strong example of how to design and implement effective digital governance approaches.

Building on these reflections, the interview delves deeper into the Danish model. It addresses key enablers of successful digital transformation, including institutional coordination, a clear focus on user needs, and sustained investment in trust and interoperability, offering policymakers and practitioners across diverse national contexts relevant insights.
