This saying has been accompanying me as far back as my childhood growing up in Africa♡ But it really started speaking to me several years ago when I was studying entrepreneurship and understanding more deeply how businesses are built up, and along with my past experience of working in one of the world's largest banks and one of the big 4 (consulting companies). I was preparing a speach for the kick off of a project that was supposed to make Uppsala the biggest hub for future peace makers and conferences and I was contemplating leadership and found that the leader (of a company or organization) actually should be visualized at the bottom of an upside down pyramide, as the leader is meant to serve the top directors who in turn then serve the managers who then serve the team leaders who then serve the teams who then serve the clients in the best way they can - and not vice versa that everyone serves the leader at the top of the pyramide.
To be a leader is to be in service.
And no, we are not meant to do it alone, to blindly push and expand on the expense of others and nature's resources to reach the top. This might result in fast results at first but it is NOT a stable construct, sooner or later the card house will fall. And this is what we are seeing happening now all over the world...instable constructs tipping over, fear and confusion.
What we need is to build strong foundations - Foundations in Love and Courage (the kind of courage that requires vulnerability and authenticity). We need to redefine what leadership is and how we can show up as leaders and visionaries in service, so that we can create a new beautiful world on stable foundations in harmony with the planet and all life.
So,
If you want to go fast, go alone.
If you want to go far, go together.
This was the credo in my first 60 page business plan I wrote 4 years ago, it was about a circular economy model of women getting selfdevelopment coaching who would in their payment pay for another woman living in a slum or difficult area somewhere on the globe - support a sister. The same concept goes for my new project: Innr Well
