Frank Borman 05/01/2022

Portuguese Sacadura Cabral and Gago Coutinho crossed the South Atlantic from Europe to Brazil, exclusively aided by internal means of aerial navigation in 1922. They improved nautical methos and devices to achieve a fast and simplified method of aerial navigation. The observation results were achieved in 1 to 3 minutes.
Finally, an old TV report was found that confirms the use of the principles developed by the Portuguese navigators in the Apollo missions. Frank Borman was the Commander of the Apollo 8, the first that orbited the Moon from 21st to 27th December 1968. During his visit to Europe, he gave a press conference in Lisbon and explained that the principle of Gago Coutinho was present in the Apollo 8 flight: "a sextant used in aeronautics for the first time in the world by the Portuguese genius" ... "we used exactly the same techniques that he used to navigating to Brazil". Of course, at the Appolo time, the apparatus was mounted to a telescope and connected to a computer, and the final accuracy error was of 0.001 degree. But the principles developed by Coutinho were the same... The South Atlantic Crossing of Gago Coutinho and Sacadura Cabral was one century ago (1912), so this year is time to commemorate!
