Summer Camp Week 2: Masterpieces and Mythical Creatures
We began our second week of Summer Camp by stepping into the world of famous paintings featuring animals. The children looked closely at each artwork, exploring its characters, composition, details, and mood before bringing it to life through live re-enactments for the audience of the gallery to identify.
From there, our campers became writers, artists, designers, musicians, and storytellers as they invented their own mythical creatures, combining unexpected animal body parts with unusual and wonderfully strange magical powers.
Each creature began as an idea. The children developed its appearance, personality, habitat, and abilities through writing before transforming their concepts into original works of art. They then created and recorded music and songs inspired by the worlds their creatures inhabited, adding another layer to their final presentations.
Throughout the week, the children also practised speaking clearly, explaining their creative decisions, and presenting their work with confidence. On Friday, they brought everything together in a joyful showcase of visual art, music, storytelling, performance, and imagination.
