🌱 Healthy soils support food production, biodiversity, water regulation, and climate resilience. To protect them, we need to understand their condition.
This is the idea behind the European Commission's proposed Soil Monitoring Law, which aims to establish a common framework for monitoring soil health across the EU. The proposal seeks to improve knowledge of soil conditions, support sustainable soil management, and help Member States collect consistent data to better protect this vital resource.

However, monitoring is only one part of the process. Interpreting that information and turning it into practical action also requires the right knowledge and tools.
Within the Ecolution MSc, the course Digital Soil Mapping, Management & Protection (2W1) explores how digital technologies support the collection, analysis, and management of soil information.
Students are introduced to topics including:
• Digital soil mapping techniques
• Soil monitoring and management
• Spatial analysis and environmental data
• Sustainable approaches to soil protection
As environmental challenges continue to evolve, understanding soils through reliable data and digital technologies is becoming an increasingly important part of sustainable environmental management.

🌍 From campus spaces to thesis stories: Ecolution MSc in Prague!
During the Ecolution MSc SUSOL Prague Thesis Communication Lab, students chose unique spots on the Czech University of Life Sciences Prague campus that reflected their SUSOL experience and connected to their Master’s thesis topics.
The workshop opened in the spirit of Erasmus+, with students reflecting on Europe as a shared learning environment shaped by exchange, collaboration, and diverse perspectives. Through a symbolic country-card and yarn-network activity, students connected their Master’s thesis topics to people, places, values, challenges, and future directions.
Students then moved from reflection to creative research communication. Using the “ECOLUTION Lens” - different approaches to thinking about their master’s thesis - they developed thesis pitches and short video scripts before choosing unique spots on campus that reflected their SUSOL experience and connected meaningfully to their Master’s thesis topics.
These campus locations became part of their short thesis reels: not just as backgrounds, but as visual symbols of their research journey, academic motivation, and potential contribution to sustainable solutions.
The result was a powerful reminder that research communication is not only about explaining an idea. It is also about showing where that idea comes from, why it matters, and how it connects to a wider European learning journey.
A big thank you to the Ecolution MSc students, to the Coordinator, Czech University of Life Sciences Prague, for hosting these activities, Evolutionary Archetypes SL’s team for facilitating the communication lab, our partners at AgriWatch BV for joining our activities, and all partners involved in creating such an inspiring space for exchange, creativity, and research storytelling.

🐦 What awaits ECOLUTION students in Prague?
Ecolution MSc students are preparing for the next teaching block in Prague, Czech Republic, where they will spend two weeks combining academic learning, practical activities, and thesis development.
The programme includes sessions on:
• Intercultural communication and Czech language basics
• Data acquisition and sensors
• Environmental data processing
• Wetlands construction and management
• Developing a Master’s Thesis Communication strategy
A major focus of the mobility is the students' Master's thesis projects. Throughout the two weeks, students will work on thesis topic development, project planning, presentations, and dedicated Q&A sessions designed to support their research journey.
Alongside the academic programme, participants will have opportunities to explore the campus environment, connect with lecturers and fellow students, and take part in career-focused activities.
The Prague mobility reflects the international and interdisciplinary approach of the Ecolution MSc, bringing together environmental knowledge, practical skills, and collaborative learning experiences.

🐦 Why environmental protection needs continuous adaptation
Environmental issues keep changing over time. Climate change, pressure on land and resources, pollution, and the loss of biodiversity all influence the way natural systems are managed and protected.
These challenges are also shaping environmental policy and decision-making.
The European Commission recently launched a public consultation and stress test related to the EU Birds and Habitats Directives, examining how existing frameworks respond to current and future environmental pressures.

These discussions show why environmental management needs to keep changing as new challenges and information emerge.
In sustainability, innovation includes developing smarter policies, improving everyday practices, and finding more effective ways to manage, protect, and restore environmental systems over time.
Within the Ecolution MSc, the course Eco-Innovation and Sustainability (2W5) focuses on sustainable approaches to environmental challenges and the development of solutions that respond to changing conditions.
It introduces learners to:
• Sustainability and environmental management approaches
• Innovation in environmental contexts
• Long-term environmental and societal challenges

Why wetland conservation matters
Wetlands support biodiversity, help regulate water cycles, and contribute to flood prevention and water purification.
They also store large amounts of carbon, making them relevant in discussions around climate adaptation and environmental resilience.
Wetland conservation continues to be a focus across Europe. Earlier this year, the European Commission highlighted a large-scale restoration initiative in Spain aiming to restore more than 26,000 hectares of wetlands through the LIFE Programme.

Projects such as these reflect the growing recognition of wetlands as important environmental systems that require long-term protection and management.
Within the Ecolution MSc, the course Wetlands Conservation and Management (1S5) focuses on the ecological importance of wetlands and the approaches used in their conservation and management.
It introduces learners to:
• Wetland ecosystems and biodiversity
• Environmental management approaches
• Conservation and restoration practices

Using extended reality in environmental contexts
Extended reality (XR), which includes virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), and mixed reality (MR), is being used across a growing number of sectors, including training, education, and industrial processes.
According to the European Commission, XR is used across sectors such as training and education, as well as in work and industrial processes.

In environmental contexts, this creates new possibilities for:
• Visualizing complex systems
• Exploring different scenarios
• Supporting training in controlled environments
These applications are particularly useful when real-world testing is difficult or not feasible.
Within the Ecolution MSc, the course Augmented & Virtual Reality Applications in Environmental Management (2W3) focuses on how XR technologies are applied in environmental contexts.
It introduces learners to:
• The use of XR tools for environmental analysis
• Simulation of environmental scenarios
• Applications in planning and decision-making

🥽 Extended reality is opening new ways to understand our environment
Environmental systems are complex, large-scale, and often difficult to observe directly and real-world testing isn't always feasible. Extended Reality (XR) VR, AR, and MR, is changing that. By creating virtual and augmented environments, XR enables:
✅ Spatial visualization of complex systems
✅ Simulation of scenarios without real-world impact
✅ Safe, repeatable training for decision-makers
The European Commission highlights XR as a key tool across training, education, and industrial processes. This is where ECOLUTION MSc contributes.
The course Augmented & Virtual Reality Applications in Environmental Management (2W3) introduces learners to XR tools for environmental analysis, planning, and decision-making, combining environmental knowledge with immersive digital skills.
