PlasticBug took to the streets with the activity “Plastic Bugs – Invisible Travellers on Microplastics”, as part of the European Researchers’ Night!

The activity was a great success, welcoming hundreds of visitors and helping them better understand the relationship between microplastics and microorganisms.

A big thank you to everyone who visited us, to the University of Coimbra team who organised the event, and to the fantastic PlasticBUG team for making it happen!

It was a pleasure to bring our research to the public. 🔬🦠

We are delighted to share that Inês Costa is participating in Extremophiles 2026, taking place at Yonsei University, Seoul, Republic of Korea.
At the conference, Inês is presenting her work, “From in vitro prediction to in vivo bioactivity: prioritizing novel bacteria from high-salt biofilms for experimental validation”, through both a panel presentation and an oral communication.

A great opportunity for Inês to share her research with the international extremophile research community and to establish new scientific connections. Congratulations, Inês! 👏🧫

📢 New publication!

We are pleased to share a new article by Cátia Costa, currently conducting her PhD research at MARE, ESTM, in collaboration with MicroResist Lab and MicroLab.

The article critically reviews the available evidence on the role of macroplastics as potential reservoirs and vectors of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in the environment.
