It’s time to bring children' s sustainable futures to life! Researchers - prepare your submission for the Research and Design Challenge!

🗓️Key Dates
April 7, 2026: Submissions Due

Check out the booklet with children’s ideas and develop one or more of them into a design concept. For example, the following idea:

“I based these concepts on the fourteenth Global Development Goal. The Fishing Net Collector 1000 is a machine that utilizes artificial intelligence to detect and collect nets discarded by irresponsible fishermen.”

Submit an extended abstract and a one-minute video bringing an idea like this to life. Shortlisted submissions will be judged by children who shared their ideas in the first phase.

Calling all PhD students! We invite you to apply for the 2026 doctoral consortium by uploading an extended abstract about yourself and your work by March 31st!

To learn a bit about the consortium experience, meet Shyamli Shuneesh a current PhD Candidate at Lancaster University and participant in the IDC Doctoral Consortium at IDC 2025.

“Presenting at last year’s Doctoral Consortium was a defining milestone in my PhD journey. The thoughtful feedback from senior researchers helped refine my research direction and clarify where my work truly contributes. I particularly valued hearing the feedback given to other doctoral researchers as well, learning from each discussion was incredibly insightful. I left feeling supported, more confident, and proud to be part of a community that deeply inspires me. Truly grateful for the experience. ✨”

More opportunities to share your work at IDC 2026!

🗓️Key Dates
March 31, 2026: Demo and Art Installation Submissions Due

Demos and Art Installations are an opportunity to share hands-on experiences of interactive technologies. The track welcomes interesting demo and art installations addressing issues related to inclusion, equity, social and emotional wellbeing, sustainability, privacy, or any other topics relevant for children. Installations can be prototypes, devices, systems, games, videos or performances, and encompass a range of interaction forms such as tangible, virtual, mobile, or mixed reality. The installation should offer an experience of about 10 minutes of interaction and conversation.

More opportunities to share your work at IDC 2026!

🗓️Key Dates
March 31, 2026: Work-in-Progress Papers Due

The Work-in-Progress track is a great opportunity to share novel ideas and emerging results. Work-in-Progress papers can report on early or ongoing research activities, presenting current and emerging work, for which full empirical data may not yet be available. It is open to late-breaking work (i.e., from a study very recently completed) and work-in-progress (i.e., further studies/developments are planned). Although work-in-progress submissions may present ongoing studies or early findings, they should still report concrete research outcomes rather than serve as research proposals.

🗓️Key Dates
February 3, 2026: Workshop Proposals Due (Midnight AOE)

Workshops offer a unique space for in-depth discussion, hands-on exchange of resources, and meaningful networking around focused topics within the IDC community. Designed for active participation, workshops bring together researchers, designers, and practitioners who arrive with informed perspectives grounded in prior experience, shared through short position papers.

Rather than traditional paper presentation sessions, IDC workshops prioritize collaboration, community building, and the collective creation of knowledge. They are an opportunity to explore emerging ideas, build connections, and co-develop future research agendas.

Workshops take place in the days leading up to the main conference and may run for a half day or a full day. Each workshop typically includes 15–20 participants, with a minimum of 8 (excluding organizers), fostering rich and focused interaction. Please note that all organizers and participants must register for both the workshop and the IDC conference.
