Body image talk..
Today I was at the gym and saw this really skinny young girl doing treadmill with an incline for a long time… of course I don’t know her story but the gut feeling I got was so sad and heavy. She was not thin she was bone skinny, doing cardio trying to further shrink herself.
This is not about her, this is about the new trend, or not so new of what we already lived, the he**in chic of the 90s and early 00s. Thintok is a thing apparently and reaching millions of young girls, some as early as 6/7 already thinking about their weight!
Why do we have to take less space? Why is the whole world always equalling thinner with better? For me is about undermining our power. Society doesn’t want women to take space, to talk loudly, to fight for our rights and of others.
I truly believe we have to show younger girls that is great to have a strong body, that we deserve to feed ourselves and be able in life, to be able to carry our own kids, groceries and be completely independent if we want to!
That there is beauty in all bodies, that we don’t need to conform to beauty standards that only exist to keep us trapped in insecurity, always chasing the new trend and spending all our money and energy in erasing ourselves.
Believe me, I am not imune to the media, many times I look at my 44 years old body and compare it with my 30s body and feel a bit sad. But then I remember myself all the things I can do! And I say thank you 🙏
Sorry about all the rambling but I just felt so sad today, I wanted to share…
