Congratulations to Pedro Inácio, researcher at the Instituto de Telecomunicações and professor at the Universidade da Beira Interior - UBI, on being awarded the title of IEEE Computer Society Distinguished Contributor, joining the 2026 Class of honorees.
Awarded to fewer than 0.5% of the IEEE Computer Society's members each year, this prestigious lifetime distinction recognizes sustained technical, professional, and service contributions that advance the computing profession and support technological innovation for the benefit of humanity.
Pedro Inácio was recognized for his long-standing contributions to computing, cybersecurity, and the global research community.
At IT, he leads the Network Applications and Services, at Covilhã (NAS-CV) research group, while at UBI he serves as Vice-Rector for Digital Strategy, Information Management and Human Resources and teaches information assurance and cybersecurity.
This recognition highlights not only Pedro Inácio's scientific excellence and leadership, but also the impact of his commitment to advancing computing, mentoring future generations, and fostering innovation.

🌐 CTI Alliance: reforçar a inovação e a competitividade nacional
O primeiro encontro da CTI Alliance – Network of Technology and Innovation Centers decorreu em Aveiro, no Instituto de Telecomunicações (IT), reunindo responsáveis dos 31 Centros de Tecnologia e Inovação (CTI) que integram esta nova rede.
Integrada pelo INOV e por outros CTI nacionais, a CTI Alliance pretende reforçar a cooperação, explorar sinergias e articular projetos de interesse comum, contribuindo para fortalecer o ecossistema nacional de inovação e a competitividade da economia.

🌐 CTI Alliance: strengthening innovation and national competitiveness
The first meeting of the CTI Alliance – Network of Technology and Innovation Centers took place in Aveiro, bringing together representatives from the 31 Technology and Innovation Centers (CTIs) that are part of this new network.
With INOV and other national CTIs among its partners, the CTI Alliance aims to strengthen cooperation, explore synergies and coordinate projects of common interest, contributing to a stronger national innovation ecosystem and a more competitive economy.

The project brings together leading European partners to accelerate the development of 6G-enabled connected and autonomous mobility.
Hosted by Instituto de Telecomunicações, in Aveiro, the Kick-Off Meeting marked the beginning of a collaborative effort to combine 6G, AI, edge computing, and cybersecurity to enable safer, smarter, and more sustainable mobility solutions across road, air, maritime, and multimodal transport.
At IT, we're contributing our expertise in next-generation communication networks, AI, edge computing, and autonomous mobility to help shape the future of connected transportation.

🤖AMALIA: Portugal's First AI Large Language Model
Today marks a historic milestone for Portuguese artificial intelligence with the official launch of AMALIA (Automatic Multimodal Language Assistant with Artificial Intelligence), the first Large Language Model (LLM) designed specifically for the Portuguese language.
Led by researchers from the Instituto de Telecomunicações (IT) and developed through a consortium including Instituto Superior Técnico (IST), Unbabel, NOVA University Lisbon, and FCT, the project was supported by €5.5 million from Portugal's Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR).
According to André Martins, the IT researcher coordinating the project: "AMALIA aims to contribute to Europe's strategic autonomy in AI by helping reduce the technological gap between Europe, the United States, and China."
