TRÊS DIAS EM ROMA A PENSAR O FUTURO DA CONSERVAÇÃO DA PINTURA MURAL

De 24 a 26 de junho decorreu em Roma o Wall Painting Specialists Conservation Meeting, promovido pelo Getty Conservation Institute.

O encontro reuniu 29 especialistas de diferentes partes do mundo para debater necessidades, desafios e prioridades na conservação da pintura mural. Entre os especialistas convidados esteve a investigadora Milene Gil, que partilhou o trabalho que tem vindo a desenvolver em Portugal, bem como algumas das preocupações atuais nesta área.

O programa incluiu também uma sessão na Villa Farnesina, em homenagem aos estudos científicos desenvolvidos por Antonio Sgamellotti sobre as pinturas murais.

Deste processo de reflexão coletiva resultaram várias linhas de orientação, que serão futuramente publicadas pelo Getty.

Um agradecimento especial ao Getty Conservation Institute pela organização destes dias de trabalho, que contribuíram para fortalecer a comunidade internacional dedicada à conservação da pintura mural.

Three days in Rome reflecting on the future of wall painting conservation

From 24 to 26 June, the Wall Painting Specialists Conservation Meeting, organised by the Getty Conservation Institute, took place in Rome.

The meeting brought together 29 specialists from different parts of the world to discuss needs, challenges and priorities in wall painting conservation. Among the invited specialists was researcher Milene Gil, who shared the work she has been developing in Portugal, as well as some of the current concerns in this field.

The programme also included a session at Villa Farnesina, in tribute to the scientific studies carried out by Antonio Sgamellotti on its wall paintings.

This process of collective reflection resulted in several guidelines, which will be published by the Getty in the future.

A special thank you to the Getty Conservation Institute for organising these days of work, which helped to strengthen the international community dedicated to the conservation of wall paintings.

For now, we share a few images from these intense and inspiring days indoors and outdoors.

Our recently published paper explores the inks used in 𝘖𝘳𝘵𝘰𝘨𝘳𝘢𝘱𝘩𝘪𝘢 𝘗𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘤𝘢 𝘥𝘦 𝘝𝘢𝘳𝘪𝘢𝘴 𝘓𝘦𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘴, a singular Portuguese manuscript dedicated to D. Teodósio (1634–1653) that has survived for nearly 400 years.

Does ink composition and its variability really influence how written heritage ages?

This codex reminds us that written heritage is never truly static; it continues to interact and change centuries after its creation.
Here we also hope to raise awareness of its current condition. If materials never stop changing, neither can our commitment to preserving them.

O Convento dos Cardaes e o Laboratório HERCULES da Universidade de Évora organizam a Exposição 𝗦𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗼𝘀 𝗖𝗼𝗿𝗽𝗼𝘀 | 𝗨𝗺 𝗔𝘁𝗹𝗮𝘀 𝗱𝗼𝘀 𝗰𝗼𝗿𝗽𝗶 𝘀𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗶 𝗲𝗺 𝗣𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗴𝗮𝗹, patente ao público no Convento dos Cardaes entre 2 de julho e 13 de agosto.

Esta exposição é composta por um núcleo virtual e um núcleo físico focado no 𝘴𝘪𝘮𝘶𝘭𝘢𝘤𝘳𝘶𝘮 de S. Peregrino (Convento dos Cardaes), que convida a (re)descobri-lo e, através dos 𝘤𝘰𝘳𝘱𝘪 𝘴𝘢𝘯𝘵𝘪 em Portugal.

A exposição é promovida no âmbito do projeto Holy Bodies (https://holybodies.uevora.pt/), onde se tem estudado a história, materialidade e valor artístico dos 𝘴𝘪𝘮𝘶𝘭𝘢𝘤𝘳𝘢 — relicários que são simultaneamente obras de arte e testemunhos de práticas religiosas profundamente enraizadas na sociedade portuguesa dos séculos XVIII e XIX.

Aqui espelha-se como o cruzamento de diferentes áreas, incluindo, história, ciências do património, conservação e restauro, pode revelar as múltiplas narrativas que se encerram nos 𝘴𝘪𝘮𝘶𝘭𝘢𝘤𝘳𝘢.

Sara Valadas ( Laboratório HERCULES , Universidade de Évora ), Eva Vermeersch , Sylvia Lycke ( Raman Spectroscopy and Archaeometry Research Group, Ghent University ) and Pieter Tack () are carrying out research at the ID21 beamline of the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility (ESRF), contributing new insights to the BioArt Project.

É com grande entusiasmo que anunciamos o lançamento oficial do livro Santos Corpos | Um atlas dos corpi santi em Portugal?

Santos Corpos em Portugal. Onde estão? Quando chegaram? Porque chegaram? Em que estado se encontram? O que revelam sobre arte, culto e tradição?

Durante três anos investigadores de diferentes áreas afinaram o seu olhar para responder a estas e muitas outras perguntas sobre os simulacra em Portugal. O livro Santos Corpos reflete o culminar deste projeto, e queremos partilhá-lo consigo como uma oportunidade para redescobrir um património religioso singular, complexo e muito pouco conhecido em Portugal.

Ao longo da sessão, membros da equipa deste projeto irão discutir alguns temas explorados e haverá espaço para perguntas e conversa com o público.

O lançamento é aberto a todos. Convidamos a comunidade académica e não académica, os curiosos, e até os mais céticos, a juntarem-se a nós para celebrar este livro.

Santos Corpos | An Atlas of the Corpi Santi in Portugal is now published.

The result of three years of research developed within the FCT-funded project Holy Bodies, this volume brings together 17 authors and multiple perspectives to explore one of Portugal’s most fascinating and lesser-known religious heritages: the corpi santi.

From history and art history to conservation, archival research, exact sciences, ethical reflections, and digital humanities, the book unveils the multiple (in)tangible layers of these relics and their reliquaries.

Santos Corpos is an invitation to explore the intersections between disciplines and to transform the way we see and understand this singular religious heritage.

Back from our one week fieldtrip in the Serra da Estrela!

We collected plants to establish the environmental strontium isotope baseline that we will use to investigate sheep transhumance during Roman and Medieval times between Idanha-a-Velha and the Serra da Estrela.

De regresso de uma semana de trabalho de campo na Serra da Estrela!

Recolhemos amostras de plantas para estabelecer a linha de base (baseline) ambiental dos isótopos de estrôncio, que servirá para estudar a transumância de ovelhas entre Idanha-a-Velha e a Serra da Estrela durante os períodos romano e medieval.
