When something costs a fortune or costs somebody an arm and leg, this means that it's extremely expensive.

Examples:
I'd love to buy a ThinkPad, but it costs a fortune.

If many members of a family have a certain quality, disease, ability, etc, so that quality, disease, or else runs in that family. For example, we can say " Generosity seems to run in our family."
نستخدم هذا التعبير عندما عندما يكون لدى معظم افراد عائلة ما صفة او مرض او ميزة او موهبة معينة
" Generosity seems to run in our family" فحينما نقول
"فهذا يعني ان" الكرم منتشر بين او متجذر في افراد عائلتنا "

هناك مثل انجليزي يقول " A day of sorrow is longer than a month of joy"
و هذا يعني أن الإنسان عادة يشعر بأن الأيام التي يسودها الحزن تكون أطول من الأيام التي يسودها السعادة و الفرح.., لذلك نقول بالعامية " الأيام الحلوة بتجري بسرعة " و إذا كان اليوم يسوده الحزن و الصعاب نقول " هذا اليوم عن سنة "
