I will never fu***ng get over seeing that photo of a decapitated Ismail Ghoul still wearing his Press vest. He was the first journalist in Gaza I followed and the only one I followed everywhere. I will never forgive the pigs for snuffing out his life like that.

This is an urgent appeal to help Khaled and his family escape Gaza. Khaled and his family have been forced to flee several times, and now live in an overcrowded tent without electricity, water or sanitation. Their house has been destroyed in airstrikes, they’ve lost their entire life savings and have nothing to go back to.
Khaled has been accepted for a master’s degree in electrical engineering at the University of Laval and has his study papers in hand from the government of Quebec but the only thing missing is the money to leave Gaza because he and his family have lost everything in the war.
The Egyptian government charges $5000 per adult (and $2500 for each child) to cross the border to safety, making this trip just about impossible for the average Palestinian without outside help. Our first goal is to get Khaled across the border into Egypt so he can first have access to more ressources to help his family, and then make the trip to Canada where he has friends waiting to take him in and help him.
If you cannot donate, please share the fundraiser link (in bio) because lives depend on it. We may not be able to help everyone, but we can help Khaled and his family.

Please help get my dear friend Khaled and his family out of Gaza! Khaled is an electrical engineer and has been accepted to the University of Laval for a master's degree and has his papers to come to Canada. The only obstacle now is raising the money for him to make the trip because like other Gazans, his family has lost everything.

Even if you cannot donate, please share these links. After more than 6 months of genocide and a man-made famine lives literally hang in the blance. Khaled's parents and younger siblings (the youngest which is only 10 years old) also depend on him, but right now they all depend on us. While it's impossible to help everybody, this is someone we can help. Please share, it's more urgent than ever!

January 2024: Our Word is Our Weapon by Subcomandante Insurgente Marcos (Seven Stories Press)
In this landmark book, Seven Stories Press presents a powerful collection of literary, philosophical, and political writings of the masked Zapatista spokesperson, Subcomandante Insurgente Marcos. Introduced by Nobel Prize winner José Saramago, and illustrated with beautiful black and white photographs, Our Word Is Our Weapon crystallizes "the passion of a rebel, the poetry of a movement, and the literary genius of indigenous Mexico."
Marcos first captured world attention on January 1, 1994, when he and an indigenous guerrilla group calling themselves "Zapatistas" revolted against the Mexican government and seized key towns in Mexico's southernmost state of Chiapas. In the six years that have passed since their uprising, Marcos has altered the course of Mexican politics and emerged an international symbol of grassroots movement-building, rebellion, and democracy. The prolific stream of poetic political writings, tales, and traditional myths that Marcos has penned since January 1, 1994 fill more than four volumes. Our Word Is Our Weapon presents the best of these writings, many of which have never been published before in English.
Throughout this remarkable book we hear the uncompromising voice of indigenous communities living in resistance, expressing through manifestos and myths the universal human urge for dignity, democracy, and liberation. It is the voice of a people refusing to be forgotten the voice of Mexico in transition, the voice of a people struggling for democracy by using their word as their only weapon.
In honor of the 30th anniversary of the 1994 Zapatista uprising in Chiapas, Mexico, there is no better book to read than this collection of eloquent and thought-provoking writings.
