قمنا بزيارة مدرسة طاليثا قومي لعرض بعض التجارب العلمية.
حيث قام أعضاء الفريق بتدريب عدد من طلاب المدرسة على تقديم التجارب والذين بدورهم قامو بعرضها على طلبة الصفوف من الخامس حتى الثامن.
نشكر المدرسة والمسؤولين على استضافتنا.

Saturday 30/11/2024:
We visited Talitha Kumi School to present some scientific experiments. The team members trained some of the school’s students to perform the experiments, and then the students presented the experiments to grades five through eight.
We want to thank the school and the administrators for hosting us.

We are delighted and proud to announce that our team member Serina Massu has joined the EPS Action Committee. We are incredibly proud of the hard work Serina has put in; she is an active member of several councils and has now joined this committee!

We wish you the best of luck in your PhD studies and look forward to your continued success and advancement in all your endeavors.

شارك فريق Science4People التابع لجامعة بيت لحم والممثل بخريجة الجامعة -تخصص أحياء ومختبرات طبية- "سيرينا المصو" في المؤتمر العلمي EPS 11th Leadership meeting الذي انعقد في مدينة نابولي، إيطاليا على مدار اليومين الثامن عشر والتاسع عشر من شهر مايو 2023 .
حيث شاركت العديد من الفرق التابعة ل Young Minds والتي تُعنى بالعلوم بشتى أنواعها وبآخر الأبحاث والاكتشافات في العالم. وتم خلال اليومين عرض العديد من المحاضرات الفيزيائية في مجالات مختلفة والتي تم ايصالها للحضور بشكل مكثف وعلمي.
وخلال اليوم الأول عرضت المشاركة سيرينا المصو بوستر تعريفي خاص بمعرض علمي قام به فريقنا خلال العام الماضي في مدرسة لورا فيكونيا، كريمزان - بيت لحم. عرفت الحضور من خلاله بالفريق وأنشطته. وقد لاقى تواجد الفريق في هذا المؤتمر استحسان وتشجيع المتواجدين، حيث أن فريقنا هو الفريق العربي الوحيد الذي شارك بهذا المؤتمر.

On Thursday the 18th of May 23, our BU alumni member Serina Massu headed to Naples-Italy, as the first and only representative of the Science4People team at the EPS 11th Leadership meeting organized by the Physics & Optics Naples Young Student (PONYS).

On arrival day, the participants representatives of 29 EPS sections from 20 countries gathered for ice-breaking drinks evening at a local restaurant in the middle of historic Naples.

The first day of the conference was mainly located at the Monte Sant’Angelo Physics Department of Federico II University of Naples. It began with an institutional welcome by Luce Berge, President of EPS, Angela Bracco, president of SIF, and Mattia Ostinato, chair of the young minds project. The program then continued with two interesting lectures in quantum physics and Raman microscopy by Yasser Omar and Anna Chiara De Luca respectively. Before enjoying a traditional Neapolitan pizza at lunch, the participants got the chance to better know the physics department of FII U with a photo hunt activity all over the campus. Finally, a poster session was held under the theme of the 2022 best activity, where our representative Serina participated with a poster about our science fair event at Laura Vicuna school in Cremisan-Bethlehem.

The second day started with an exciting lecture about new Frontiers in particle detection by Alberto Lorio and Martina De Laurentis at the Marcelino Festo historical building. The highlight of the day was the Panel discussion on the topic new world new publishing by a handful of astonishing experts publishers and academics. The session was moderated by Mattia Ostinato ending with a recommendation for the challenges we are currently facing with the publishing reproducibility crisis. After the closing ceremony, the conference ended with a very inspiring and amusing guided tour around Naples's historic center.
The general impression of Serina about the 11th EPS meeting:” I was pleasured and honored to represent the S4P team at the international level. The meeting was a great eye-opening and networking opportunity for our team to get to know more and create connections with other groups and sections who are working in their respective counties with similar aims as ours in empowering the young generation of scientists and students. It was an amazing chance for us to learn about the different methodologies for the outreach approaches that we can try back in Palestine.”

Her project is about “The relationship between selected bioelements associated with testosterone deficiency syndrome in aging men”.

Here’s some info about her project:
“Physical and emotional dysfunctions, including depression, have been linked to abnormal concentrations of bioelements (magnesium, manganese, chromium, copper, and zinc).
Also, there is a relationship between the concentrations of selected bioelements and the incidence of depressive symptoms in men aged 50 years and older with a concurrent testosterone deficiency syndrome.
Blood samples were taken from 314 men, and the average age of the group was 61.36± 6.38 years. For the biochemical analysis of magnesium (Mg), manganese (Mn), chromium (Cr), copper (Cu), and zinc (Zn), a spectrophotometric method was employed.
Total testosterone (TT), free testosterone (FT), estradiol (E2), and dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate (DHEAS) levels were measured by ELISA.
Moreover, the severity of depressive symptoms in participants was assessed using questionnaires: the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI-Ia), as well as the Androgen Deficiency in Aging Male (ADAM) questionnaire.
Diagnosis of testosterone deficiency syndrome and emotional disturbances characterized by depressive symptoms were made in 28.7% and 49.3%, respectively, of all participants.
The analysis of the TDS group revealed a significant relationship between the levels of chromium (R = 0.185, p = 0.021) and manganese (R =0.225, p = 0.005) and the prevalence of depression.
This may suggest a link between these bioelements and emotional disorders in older men with identified testosterone deficiency that manifest as depressive symptoms.”

الأحد -١٢/٣/٢٠٢٣ : زار فريق Science4People مدرسة الإخاء الإسلامية الثانوية، وتم عمل معرض علمي لطلاب الصفوف السادس والسابع.

Sunday- 12/3/2023: Science4People visited Al-ekhaa Secondary School, to perform a Science Fair for school students from the 6th and 7th grades.

السبت - ١٥/١٠/٢٠٢٢: زار فريق Science4People مدرسة لورا فيكونيا - كريمزان، حيث تم عمل معرض علمي لطلاب الصفوف الخامس والسادس.

شارك فريق Science4People التابع لجامعة بيت لحم والممثل بخريجة الجامعة -تخصص أحياء ومختبرات طبية- "دانه رمضان سلطان" في المؤتمر العلمي EPS FORUM الذي انعقد في جامعة السوربون في باريس، فرنسا على مدار اليومين الثاني والثالث من شهر حزيران الحالي.

حيث شاركت العديد من الفرق التابعة ل Young Minds والتي تُعنى بالعلوم بشتى أنواعها وبآخر الأبحاث والاكتشافات في العالم.

ومن الجدير بالذكر أن المؤتمر استضاف علماء حاصلين على جائزة نوبل الذين ألقوا محاضرات هامة عن الفيزياء والفيزياء الحيوية. وهم:
العالم B.BARISH الحاصل على جائزة نوبل في الفيزياء لعام 2017.
والعالم S.HAROCHE الحاصل على جائزة نوبل في الفيزياء لعام 2012.
وأيضاً العالم J.M.KOSTERLITZ .
وتم خلال اليومين طرح العديد من المعلومات الهامة التي تم ايصالها للحضور بشكل مكثف وعلمي بحت.

وخلال اليوم الثاني عرضت المشاركة دانه سلطان بوستر تعريفي خاص بفريق Science4People عرفت الحضور من خلاله بالفريق وأنشطته والهدف من تأسيسه. وقد لاقى تواجد الفريق في هذا المؤتمر استحسان وتشجيع المتواجدين، حيث أن فريقنا هو الفريق العربي الوحيد الذي شارك بهذا المؤتمر.

Our team member, Dana Sultan, participated in the EPS FORUM scientific conference that was held at the Sorbonne University in Paris, France, on the second and third days of June.

Many other Young Minds sections participated in the conference, along with some Nobel Prize-winning scientists who gave important lectures on physics and biophysics.

During the second day, Dana presented a poster for the Science4People team, through which she introduced the team, its vision, and some of its activities and accomplishments!
