When parents became their children. A little creating, building, playing, exploring, and even moving through a class schedule gave our parents a glimpse into a world their children know well.

Back to School Nights may be for parents and guardians, but sometimes the best way to understand your student’s school experience is to step into it yourself.

Hurricane spirit was everywhere at Family Day! Our SJS community filled Eco’s Sports Park with games, sports, music, spuma, Student Council booths, and nonstop fun.

But the best part? Seeing our families together, welcoming new ones into the mix, reconnecting with friends, and kicking off another school year as a community.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and to the many hands behind the scenes who made Family Day one to remember. What a way to start the year, Hurricanes!

Spanish is glowing a little brighter at Upper Elementary! Through Glow Friday stations, Ms. Sheddianne’s Spanish as a Second Language students reviewed concepts, practiced conversation, and put their Spanish to work through activities designed to get them talking, participating, and taking risks with confidence. Because learning a new language should sound like this: students engaged, voices everywhere, and plenty of Spanish in the mix.

It’s how language learning comes to life at SJS: engaging experiences that build skills, spark curiosity, and help students find their voice in a new language.

Congratulations to our 31 Secondary students who advanced to the 2nd phase of the 2026–2027 Olimpiadas Matemáticas de Puerto Rico (OMPR).

7th Grade: Aianna Hooper, Jack Kodesh, Victoria McErlean, and Nazeli Rivas.

8th Grade: Sebastian Borschow, Alexander Cobbs, Luis Marrero, Miranda Muñoz-Najar, Lucas Sharon, Bobby Van Kirk, and Leith Yassin.

9th Grade: Jaime Fonalledas, Esteban Higuera, Alexander Hooper, Eva Nguyen, Victoria Osorio, Naira Rivas, and Sebastian Tomas.

10th Grade: Alexander Bergner, Elsa Besser, Gabriela Chanez, Isabel González, Adam Mukhtar, Ignacio Muñoz-Najar, Nicolas Muñoz, Liam Shemesh, and Violette Shue.

11th Grade: Maddox Nguyen, Isabella Perez, Ben Ravitch, and He Shan.

For five of these Hurricanes, there’s even more to celebrate. Based on their performance in the final phase of the 2025–2026 OMPR cycle, they earned spots representing Puerto Rico in the following international competitions:

Central American and Caribbean Mathematical Olympiad (AUG 2026, Mexico): Isabella Perez ’28, Bronze Medalist.

Olimpiada Iberoamericana de Matemática (SEP 2026, Argentina): He Shan ’28.

Pan-American Girls’ Mathematical Olympiad (OCT 2026, Colombia): Gabriela Chanez ’29, Isabella Perez ’28, and Violette Shue ’29; Eva Nguyen ’30, team substitute.

We’re proud to see our Hurricanes continue testing their abilities at increasingly competitive levels and representing Puerto Rico along the way.

A connected school community is built on conversation and a shared commitment to excellence. Our first Coffee with Cecilia of the school year brought parents together with our Head of School to explore how engagement, feedback, and excellence shape the SJS experience. Survey insights and updates on our summer campus projects were also shared, reflecting something we deeply value: a strong partnership with our families.

This is what math looks like at SJS. Our 6th-grade Advanced Math students transformed their classroom and hallways into life-size number lines, exploring rational numbers, opposites, absolute value, and ordering through hands-on exploration.

It’s one example of how a strong academic foundation, meaningful challenges, and engaging learning experiences prepare our Elementary students for what comes next.

We love seeing our students take concepts beyond the page, making math something they can see, understand, and make their own.
