The Moon’s shadow has moved on, but the science is just getting started. 🚀

The balloon teams will work through what they recorded about the lower atmosphere during totality, and the corona images from the WB-57 jet head into processing.

But the results will be worth it — and that's why NASA keeps going wherever totality leads. Every eclipse is a fresh look at the Sun and our atmosphere, and the next one isn’t far off: on Aug. 2, 2027, the Moon’s shadow returns to southern Spain before crossing North Africa and the Middle East in what will be the longest total solar eclipse of the century — up to about six and a half minutes. Mark your calendars! 🗓️

From the island’s coasts to its sloping mountain ranges, Puerto Rico’s tropical forests teem with biodiversity.

But these forests are even more diverse than they appear at first glance: When it comes to how they use water, trees in Puerto Rico are surprisingly individualistic.

A recently published study reveals that in these forests, two trees belonging to the same species can vary wildly in how they transport, manage, and store water, depending on how dry it is in their specific habitats.

The findings suggest Puerto Rico’s tropical forests may be more resilient to drought than once thought and point toward better ways to model forests’ responses to future climate change.
