School of Pharmacy, Medical Sciences Campus, UPR Doctor of Philosophy in Pharmaceutical Sciences Program students William Mendoza and Kaitlyn Nieves will participate in the EFMC-ACSMEDI Medicinal Chemistry Frontiers 2026 Meeting in Dublin, Ireland.

This joint symposium is organized by the European Federation for Medicinal Chemistry and Chemical Biology and the Division of Medicinal Chemistry of the American Chemical Society, and includes experts, researchers and early career trainees in drug discovery and development. The students will be able to present their findings while networking with scientists in the fields of chemistry, computer assisted drug design, biology, DMPK, pharmacology, and early toxicology. Students at the School of Pharmacy continue to have meaningful experiences that strengthen their scientific and professional development.

Doctor of Philosophy in Pharmaceutical Sciences Program student Valeria Miranda will spend this summer at Universidad Complutense de Madrid working with Dr. María Soledad Fernández, Faculty at the UCM School of Pharmacy and Director of the Group for the Study of Cardiometabolic Health.

Dr. Fernández works on the pathophysiological mechanisms in cardiovascular disease (CVD), aimed at evaluating new drugs and designing new intervention strategies to prevent and slow its progression. Her group is also interested in community pharmacist´s intervention, delivered as a combination of health education, nutritional follow-up, and lifestyle modification, to prevent and/or reduce metabolic alterations associated with obesity.

La hípica puertorriqueña vivió una jornada inolvidable cuando tres jinetes boricuas dominaron el podio del Belmont Stakes 2026, una de las carreras más prestigiosas de la Triple Corona estadounidense.

El puertorriqueño José Luis Ortiz se alzó con la victoria montando a Golden Tempo, mientras que Johnny Velázquez finalizó en la segunda posición sobre Commandment. El histórico triplete boricua fue completado por Irad Ortiz Jr., quien llevó a Renegade al tercer lugar.

Es la segunda ocasión en que una tripleta de boricuas domina el Belmont. Para el 2022, Irad Ortiz ganaba con Mo Denegal, la segunda posición fue para José Ortiz con Nest y el tercer puesto fue para Manuel Franco con Skippytoking

¡Historia pura! Una Triple Corona teñida de rojo, blanco y azul, demostrando una vez más que Puerto Rico sigue siendo una potencia mundial en la hípica.

School of Pharmacy, Medical Sciences Campus, UPR Doctor of Pharmacy Program alumni Ashley N. Adorno Digiallonardo and Ivanna Gómez Padilla continue to expand their careers in pharmacy.

Dr. Adorno was admitted to the PGY1 Pharmacy Residency Program at AdventHealth Altamonte Springs in Florida, while Dr. Gómez accepted a position as PGY2 Infectious Diseases Pharmacy Resident at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. Our alumni are examples of excellence and commitment in patient care. Congratulations on your new professional endeavors!
