This season for me has been less about getting the best waves and more about reconnecting to the ocean and the pure joy of surfing.

The crowds have been making me a bit eggy so I’ve been trying to surf around them. And more often than not, avoiding the crowds also means surfing in less than “ideal” conditions.

Let’s just say that I’ve had to put on my “South Carolina goggles” more than a few times this winter season. I’ve also gotten super lucky and scored some magical, uncrowded sessions, as well.

But mostly, I’ve been doing my best to drop expectations and just appreciate and work with whatever conditions are there in front of me ☺️

A nice reminder that hard work pays off 🤘😝

… And in that same breath, I’m also reminded (once again) that we learn sooooo much more from the journey.

I kept the original audio so you can hear my crew cheering me on. So grateful for every single one of them 💜

Next goal: 3-5 unbroken by summer, let’s gooo ☀️

Hey — THIS is what we’re fighting to protect 🦜🌴🪸🌊🐢💜

A sacred coastline. An incredibly unique and biologically diverse little corner of the world. There’s nowhere else like it on this planet and soooo many people have a deep connection to it.

It’s a part of our daily life — walking the shoreline, surfing the waves, diving the reefs, watching the sunset, connecting to nature & making beautiful memories with loved ones.

There’s a reason why people come from all over the world to see this stretch of coast & experience its natural beauty.

And as someone that’s been surfing my entire life, it still continues to blow my mind that some places on this planet are so perfectly positioned, and that their bottom contours & reefs are angled in just the right way, that when ocean swells from storms thousands of miles away meet that stretch of land and roll across that reef — perfect waves form that we as humans are able to catch & ride. Like, what?!?! 🤯

From Tres Palmas to Domes & beyond, this special and ecologically sensitive stretch of coastline is truly irreplaceable, and the proposed “Scenic Touristic Route” in Rincón poses a very, very serious threat.

If we interfere too much, we are at risk of losing this sacred coastline and its world-class reefs & waves, forever.

‼️ So , we are asking you to step up & do the right thing. We need you to use your seat on the House Committee on Natural Resources to demand a federal investigation and protect what is left ‼️

I love contrast therapy for its many benefits, like improved circulation, accelerated recovery & reduced soreness post-training, and its potential to enhance my immune system… I find it especially helpful when I’ve had a long week or pushed too hard in training or if I’m recovering from an injury.

But another reason I love regular contrast therapy, and in my opinion an often overlooked application for contrast therapy, is that it can be used as a space for stress reduction (hello, sauna 🔥) as well as a tool to train mental resilience (hello, plunge 🥶) to support overall wellness like improved focus, sustainable energy, and better sleep.

En arroz y habichuelas: It’s a scheduled 20-, 40-, or 60-minutes for yourself to disconnect, relax, reset, and recharge 🔋

I share my preferred protocol in the Reel, but as always, start slow & ease in. Add time & rounds as you become familiar, and always listen to your body and do what feels best for you!

This is NOT medical advice, so it’s always a good idea to consult your trusted healthcare provider before starting a new wellness program.

Shout out to Rincón Recovery Room for this space that supports us in feeling our best! 💜

Special {captured} moments from throughout the past year 💜 Like most years, there were some incredible highs as well as some truly devastating losses & lows, along with plenty of the seemingly ordinary — yet in hindsight, the remarkably significant & memorable — moments in between.

This past year challenged my relationship to both change & grief. Letting go — that’s never been an easy one for me — and certain seasons of life seem to require us to drop the {often self-inflicted} struggle & just let the current carry us on our way.

The reality is: Life isn’t easy for anybody & we’re all truly doing the best that we can. But at the same time, this is what we got. This all we have. And what this life has been teaching me, so far, is that the practice is finding the balance between the grit of greatness & the grace of being human.

We could spend lifetimes trying to better learn the balance, but damn, if I’m not beyond grateful to make it another year — and I hope you are too! 🪩✨

Thank you to my husband Brian for always being by my side & carrying the load when I’m not able to — the best life partner & dog dad ever.

Thank you to my family as well for the same love & support. My parents are the best, I am who I am & where I am because of them.

Thank you to my friends — too many to tag but you know who you are — for keeping it real, boosting me up & forever being my inspiration. I’m also so grateful for my students & my clients & my employers, as well as my doubters because, let’s be real, the struggle is often the best means of leveling up.

Life isn’t about being better, because you’re already great. In my opinion, I think it’s about realizing your innate greatness and the fact that you’re already capable of really awesome things {especially when united together, another inspiration I carry with me into the New Year}.

So keep showing up 🫶 ¡Feliz Año Nuevo a todxs! ☀️🌊
