🔥🔥Pit Fire Workshop🔥🔥
This workshop consists of 3 meetings:
1: Work time in the studio (3 hours) to create artworks
2: Work time in the studio (2 hours) to finish artworks
3: Pit fire day at Terruño Azulverdoso en el Lago La Plata
$228 per person includes:
-10lbs of clay per person
-use of studio equipment & tools
-application of terra sigiliata
-bisque firing your creations
-experimental oxide application on day of pit firing
-lunch on day of pit firing
-Cacao Ceremony on day of pit firing
Participants should have some clay experience to participate in this workshop. Wheelthrowing is allowed with previous experience. A teacher will be available during studio work time to support participants and provide basic assistance.
During the first meeting, each person will receive 10lbs of clay to create with. Participants may use any equipment and/or tools in the classroom. Works will be wrapped overnight, and participants will return for a second 2-hour work block to finish their pieces. It’s important to remember that nothing will be food safe, so this is a great opportunity to make sculptural and decorative pieces. Participants should also be realistic about what can be made from start to finish within the 5 hours of work time. The minimum size for pieces is 3”x3”x3”. Once works are completed and dry, we will apply terra sigillata and burnish them before putting them into the bisque firing. We will meet again on November 7 for the pit firing! Participants will need a respirator or an N-95 mask to wear for the experimental oxide application and the first hour of the pit firing.
We are collaborating with other clay studios for this workshop. Each studio is hosting their own sessions for the first making part of the workshop, and we will all attend the pit firing day together.
