Four of our Pre-K Primary students completed the 1000 chain together! This was no small feat of collaboration, coordination, and team work.

🧮 What is it?
• This work uses a chain of 1000 golden beads composed of 100 bars of 10, a cube of 1000, 10 squares of 100, and a box of labels with the numbers 1-10, and 20-1000 (by tens).
• The child takes out the chain and counts the first ten beads, labeling each bead.
• They continue to count but now only labels the 10s all the way to 100.
• Here, the adult reminds them how the 100 chain folded up into a square like the square of 100, and they place one of the squares above 100. They repeat this process until they reach 1000.
• At 1000, the adult shows the child how we can stack the ten 100 squares up so they look like the 1000 cube (to show the child that 10 100s is the same as 1000).

🤔 Why do we do it?
• To consolidate linear counting.
• To solidify the idea that 100 is 10 tens, and 10 hundreds is 1000.
• To give sensorial impression of the difference between 10^2 and 10^3.
• Indirect preparation for squaring and cubing.

Today we celebrated Día del Estudiante at The Girasol School 🌻✨

A day filled with joy, friendship, creativity, and the kind of meaningful childhood moments that make our community so special.

One of the biggest highlights? Our incredible Elementary Assistant Guide created custom TGS Student Cards inspired by the trading cards our students absolutely love to collect, trade, and play with. From personalized details to imaginative character-style designs, the excitement was unmatched and the children were beyond proud to see themselves represented in a way that felt both playful and deeply personal.

It was such a beautiful reminder that learning happens through connection, creativity, and honoring children’s interests.

Happy Student Day to the curious minds, kind hearts, and joyful spirits that make our school come alive every single day. 💛

Un día lleno de alegría, amistad, creatividad y esos momentos significativos de la infancia que hacen nuestra comunidad tan especial.

¿Uno de los momentos más emocionantes? Nuestra increíble Assistant Guide de Elementary creó tarjetas personalizadas de estudiantes de TGS inspiradas en las famosas tarjetas coleccionables que a nuestros niños les encanta intercambiar y jugar. Desde detalles personalizados hasta diseños llenos de imaginación, la emoción fue indescriptible y los estudiantes estaban orgullosísimos de verse representados de una forma tan divertida y especial.

One of the beautiful benefits of bilingual education is how naturally children can learn and move between two languages. In our Montessori environment, English and Spanish are woven into the day through hands-on materials, conversation, reading, and real-life experiences.

Happy Spring! 💐 A tiny baby chick visited our playground today. 🐥 In Montessori, nature is an essential part of the child’s learning environment. Daily outdoor immersion creates space for real encounters that awaken observation, wonder, gentleness, and respect for all living things.

Today our playground came alive with a vibrant Dragon Dance as we celebrated Lunar New Year together! A heartfelt thank you to our wonderful volunteer parent, Brooke, for sharing her knowledge, traditions, and the meaning behind ringing in the Year of the Fire Horse.
